SCATTERED SEVERE STORMS MONDAY; TORNADO RISK A BIT HIGHER INLAND… The Storm Prediction Center upgraded parts of Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and much of Georgia into their Level 3 (out of 5) enhanced severe weather risk valid for Monday, March 31. The overall tornado risk will likely be greatest across inland areas locally on Monday, mainly in the daytime hours. Damaging wind gusts and large hail will also be possible. The overall severe weather risk is a bit lower closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches, although even in these communities, the risk certainly is not zero. We encourage everyone to have a way to hear warnings on Monday.
WHAT TO EXPECT – TODAY… Spotty showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible throughout the day on this Sunday. Widespread severe storms are not expected today but one or two isolated strong storms cannot completely be ruled out. It won’t rain all day in any given spot, but spotty showers and storms will be possible. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s.
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – MONDAY… Thunderstorms will approach south Alabama and northwest Florida from the northwest on Monday morning. Storms will likely be in progress before sunrise across parts of central Mississippi and central Alabama. This line or complex of thunderstorms will enter Clarke and Washington counties in west Alabama first before gradually moving across our region throughout the day on Monday. 6AM to 6PM Monday is the twelve hour window for strong to severe storms across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Monday, meaning this will very likely exclusively be a problem during the DAYTIME hours. That is a nice change, right? We have had far too many overnight severe weather events in the last few years. This one looks to happen during the day on Monday. Main window in the 6AM-6PM slot will be from 10AM to 4PM. Have a way to hear warnings on Monday!
