RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES OVERNIGHT INTO SUNDAY; SEVERE WEATHER RISK DURING DAY ON SUNDAY… Tomorrow will likely NOT be an all day washout for most communities across the region but what it will be is a day when scattered strong to severe storms will be possible, particularly further inland away from the coast. The entire local area remains involved in the Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk on Sunday, meaning scattered severe storms may become possible. This will be a slow-moving batch of storms that produces heavy rain. Some instances of flash flooding may become possible. IF severe storms happen, development is most likely during the daytime hours. Timing details are below.

SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – SUNDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage overnight into Sunday morning, particularly across west Alabama. Most of south Alabama and northwest Florida will remain dry until tomorrow morning after sunrise when rain and storms will begin to GRADUALLY increase in coverage. A rather low-end severe weather risk may exist across the region from around 9AM in the morning to 9PM tomorrow night. Quite frankly, the risk of severe storms is more questionable closer to the coast. Tomorrow may end up being rather dry at times for northwest Florida, specifically.

LACK OF OVERLAP OF SEVERE WEATHER INGREDIENTS… While the entire local area is involved in the Storm Prediction Center’s Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for Sunday, there is a real chance that heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding may be the biggest hazard concern. That isn’t to say that the tornado risk is zero, it certainly isn’t, but most communities may end up having general thunderstorms with flash flooding being the main concern. This is because of the upper atmospheric “pieces of the puzzle” being misaligned slightly. Storms will likely be moving into our region in the morning hours of Sunday, in between two shortwave troughs. This factor may help to limit the severe weather potential across our region. We will be watching storms all day Sunday for any that could ramp up and produce gusty winds and tornadoes. Most communities, however, will simply have some rain and thunder at times. We encourage everyone to have multiple ways to hear warnings.

COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY… Minor coastal flooding is likely across the northern parts of Mobile Bay (near the Causeway) around the time of high tide on Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory due to this likelihood.
