MOSTLY SUNNY TODAY; RAIN & STORMS RETURN SUNDAY; TROPICAL STORM MELISSA IN CARIBBEAN… Nice weather is expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Wednesday. Temperatures will peak in the upper 70s today in what will be a beautiful fall day. Temperatures will be in the 40s overnight into early Thursday morning. More sunshine is expected tomorrow ahead of a few passing clouds on Friday. I expect today, tomorrow, and Friday to be dry. Our next chance of rain happens this weekend, specifically on Sunday.
MOSTLY CLOUDY ON SATURDAY… Cloud coverage will increase across the region on Saturday, but most, if not all, of the daytime hours should be dry. High temperatures will be around the 80 degree mark on Saturday. Scattered showers will become possible late in the evening hours.
RAIN & STORMS RETURN LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY… Rain and thunderstorms are likely at times on Sunday ahead of a frontal boundary slated to move across the Deep South. For now, the overall risk of severe storms remains quite low. This could be a situation with multiple rounds of rain and storms, but it is a bit too early for that determination. Widespread 1-2″ rain totals appear possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida.
TROPICS: TROPICAL STORM MELISSA IN THE CARIBBEAN SEA… The National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Tropical Storm Melissa, located in the central Caribbean Sea. The official forecast for Melissa calls for movement very slowly to the north over the next few days. A Hurricane Watch has been posted for the southern part of Haiti. A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for all of Jamaica. The odds of Tropical Storm Melissa moving into the Gulf remain quite low. Most of the global model guidance shows movement to the north toward Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. Interests in The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos islands should closely monitor the progress of Melissa.
TROPICS: GULF REMAINS QUIET… The Gulf remains quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days.
