WARM TODAY & FRIDAY; PICTURE PERFECT FALL WEATHER THIS WEEKEND; NO RAIN IN SIGHT… We have a hot afternoon on tap today and on Friday across south Alabama and northwest Florida, but a refreshing change is coming for the weekend! High temperatures today will be in the mid to upper 80s, with some inland communities reaching 90°. No rain is expected today. Tomorrow will bring another warm afternoon before a cold front ushers in much cooler air Friday night. No rain is expected for the weekend, setting up nice weather for outdoor plans and if you’re like me, nice weather to continue hurricane cleanup in the yard. I’ve done it a few times already but I want to reiterate how grateful I am for linemen and EVERYONE involved in getting electricity turned back on across our region. Thank you for your work!
SUNNY & WARM TODAY AND TOMORROW… Plenty of sunshine is expected today, with highs near 90° in places like Greenville, Thomasville, and Chatom. Temperatures could approach daily records in parts of the region. Lows tonight will range from around 60° inland to the low 70s near the coast. Highs tomorrow will again be in the 80s to near 90°, although how warm we get will depend somewhat on how quickly the cold front arrives. With recovery from Hurricane Isaias ongoing and some locations still without power, the afternoon warmth remains a concern for anyone doing strenuous cleanup work. Take breaks if you feel yourself getting too hot – that’s coming from someone who has a tendency to push a little too hard sometimes!
COLD FRONT TO MOVE THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT… The cold front is expected to cross our area Friday afternoon into Friday night. Moisture will be too limited to support much, if any, rain with the frontal passage. The big change will be the arrival of cooler, drier air, rather than a round of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will fall into the 50s to low 60s by Saturday morning, with a substantial drop in afternoon temperatures compared to Friday.
REFRESHINGLY COOL TEMPS & CLEAR SKIES THIS WEEKEND… Saturday will feel quite different from today and tomorrow! Afternoon highs will only reach the upper 60s to low 70s, followed by low to mid 70s on Sunday. Dry conditions are expected through the weekend. Lows Saturday night into Sunday morning will range from the upper 40s in the coolest locations to the low to mid 60s in warmer spots. Much more comfortable weather is ahead for spending time outside.
MORE NICE WEATHER INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… Temperatures will gradually recover early next week, but we are not expecting an immediate return to the warmth of today. Highs Monday will be in the mid to upper 70s, followed by upper 70s to low 80s Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain chances remain low, with a small chance of showers Monday and even lower chances Tuesday and Wednesday. No widespread rain event is indicated in the next several days.
TROPICS: DESPITE PLENTY OF CLICKBAIT, GULF IS COMPLETELY QUIET… The Gulf has no active tropical storms or hurricanes, and the National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any disturbances there for potential development. Tropical development is not expected in the Gulf over the next 7 days. I’ve seen the worst of the worst over the last few days, with some pages “jokingly” suggesting another hurricane is headed to the Gulf Coast. This could not be further from the truth. The Gulf will remain quiet for at least the next 7 days, if not longer.
TROPICS: CARIBBEAN & ATLANTIC ALSO QUIET… The Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean are also quiet, with no active tropical storms or hurricanes and no disturbances highlighted for development. The National Hurricane Center does not expect tropical development in either area over the next 7 days. The Atlantic hurricane season continues through November 30.
