DRY MONDAY; STORMS POSSIBLE LOCALLY P.M. WEDNESDAY; COOLER TEMPS LATER THIS WEEK… Partly cloudy skies are expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Monday with warm temperatures. Patchy areas of dense fog will burn off by 10AM. We’ll be in the mid to upper 80s for afternoon highs today. Tomorrow will likely be a dry day ahead of our next chance of rain and thunderstorms set to happen on Wednesday evening. Scattered thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday evening into Wednesday night ahead of cooler temperatures expected on Thursday into Friday. Afternoon highs will be around the 70 degree mark by the time we get to Saturday.

PATCHY FOG TOMORROW MORNING; PARTLY CLOUDY TUESDAY… Patchy areas of dense fog will be possible again tomorrow morning across the region. Skies will be partly cloudy throughout the day tomorrow across the local area with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. We will be tracking scattered strong to severe thunderstorms in areas to our north across north Mississippi and north Alabama on Tuesday into Tuesday night. The Storm Prediction Center has a Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk in place for Huntsville, Florence, Hamilton, Moulton, Russellville, Oxford (MS), Memphis (TN), Jackson (TN), Nashville (TN), and Little Rock (AR) valid for tomorrow into tomorrow night. Scattered wind damage, large hail, and a few tornadoes will be possible.

SCATTERED STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY P.M. WITH LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK… The same system responsible for severe storms to our north tomorrow into tomorrow night will ultimately move into our local area on Wednesday in the afternoon and evening hours. Scattered strong to marginally severe storms may become possible. For now, it looks like the greater chance of any strong storms will happen north of U.S. Highway 84 on Wednesday. The best rain chances will also happen further inland.

MUCH COOLER, UNSETTLED PATTERN INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND… Temperatures will decline later this week after a cold front pushes through the region. Highs on Thursday will be closer to 80 degrees. High temperatures on Friday will be in the mid 70s. We may have highs that struggle to get to the 70 degree mark on Saturday. Multiple waves of light to moderate rain seem likely as we get into Saturday. This is something I will be closely monitoring over the next few days.

15TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE APRIL 27, 2011 GENERATIONAL TORNADO OUTBREAK… Alabama and parts of the Deep South endured one of the worst tornado outbreaks ever recorded fifteen years ago today. 252 Alabamians lost their lives on that day due to over 60 (!) tornadoes. Thousands more were injured. Hackleburg in northwest Alabama and Rainsville in northeast Alabama suffered EF5 damage. A long track EF4 tornado moved through Tuscaloosa and the western suburbs of Birmingham, causing catastrophic damage. Our prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones in that horrible tornado outbreak – 15 years ago today.
