MOSTLY SUNNY TUESDAY; ONLY A FEW POP-UP SHOWERS & STORMS… Slightly lower humidity is expected across the region on this Tuesday with afternoon high temperatures projected to be in the low 90s this afternoon. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies will exist across south Alabama and northwest Florida throughout the day on this Tuesday. A few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours, later today.

RAIN CHANCES INCREASE SLIGHTLY LATER THIS WEEK… The next few days will be quite seasonal for early August with partly cloudy skies expected each day. The afternoon and evening hours tomorrow and Thursday will feature widely scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. The weekend looks to be a bit more active with more in the way of pop-up storms in the P.M. hours on Saturday and Sunday. No need to cancel any plans. This is the typical pattern for summertime around here with P.M. pop-up storms being the norm. No signs of any organized severe weather events anytime soon across the local area. As always, some of the strongest pop-up storms may be capable of producing gusty winds.

TROPICS QUIET; LONG RANGE MODELS QUIET… The Gulf, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean remain quiet with no tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. We note that the longer range GFS and ECMWF (Euro) models also highlight generally quiet conditions across much of the Atlantic Basin over the next 10-14 days. The effects of El Niño continue to build, pointing to the potential for a “quieter than normal” peak of hurricane season in a few weeks. The climatological peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season happens in mid-September. Hurricane season will end on November 30.
