LIGHTNING INCREASING IN COVERAGE… The overall lightning output in the scattered thunderstorms continues to increase this evening. This is fairly typical on hot, summer days when pop-up storms happen. The peak time for lightning is usually between 3PM and 7PM due to prolific daytime heat content in the atmosphere. That’s exactly what we are seeing today.
Storms near Atmore, Perdido, Nokomis, Bluff Springs, Jay, Flomaton, Century, Brewton, East Brewton, Creola, Zimco, and Coffeeville continue to slowly move east-southeast this evening.
Storms will likely decrease in coverage this evening after sunset.

Tornadoes are NOT expected today across south Alabama or northwest Florida. The risk is at or near zero just about everywhere locally. What we will have, however, are spotty, pop-up storms that continue to develop into this evening.
