STORMS NEAR CASTLEBERRY PRODUCING PROLIFIC LIGHTNING… The thunderstorm that has popped up near the I-65 corridor in southern Conecuh County over the last 30 minutes has really ramped up, in terms of lightning output. Loud thunder is being heard from Evergreen to Brewton. While this storm is not severe, everyone should be inside near Brewton as the lightning danger is very real.
This storm will continue moving east-southeast.
Also monitoring storms in northern Mobile County that will move toward the Mobile metro and Eastern Shore region over the next hour or so.
I’m watching radar trends carefully.
Rain/storms are moving into Evergreen, Castleberry, Johnsonville, Nymph this evening… View from Melissa McMillan looking west into the storm. ⛈ pic.twitter.com/brwYqIU340

FEW STORMS REMAINING… A few masses of thunderstorms continue to move east-southeast across south Alabama. Heavy rain has popped up near Evergreen, Lenox, Owassa, Citronelle, McIntosh, and Chatom.
Storms will continue to produce brief heavy downpours of rain and lightning. I expect storms to fade gradually over the next few hours.
If that's not the epitome of a summer day sat/rad shot, I don't know what is… Widely scattered storms! pic.twitter.com/iSzZwksRhf

Isolated storms continue across Clarke and Monroe counties early this evening… Few storms also happening near Lake Stone near Century. pic.twitter.com/9evvxwlOB0

Each red pin represents a #carburglary this year in south Okaloosa alone. At least 15 were reported Sunday in #Destin. Every single car was unlocked! 5 guns were stolen, along with a cash box, three sets of keys, and one car. Please lock your cars & Please RT! ⭐️????? pic.twitter.com/0zOpbkkZek

Deeper moisture will spread into our area Tuesday & Wednesday ahead of a slow moving storm system. Considerably higher rain chances return to the forecast both days, along with an associated potential for locally heavy rainfall and a limited risk of localized flooding. #mobwx pic.twitter.com/K2ASFVugvd

STORMS FIRING OVER WEST ALABAMA… Numerous small thunderstorms are now firing over Choctaw, Clarke, and Washington counties. The atmosphere is more stable now to the east in places like Brewton and Andalusia that had storms earlier.
Scattered storms have also popped up near Bay Minette and near Pace and Pensacola.
More storms are possible over the next few hours regionwide. Be ready for more scattered downpours!
?Several radars across the region are down due to a regional comms issue. We can still see the radar data here in the office, so we are still able to monitor ongoing storms across the area. #mobwx

Quite a bit of cloud cover remains in place across south Alabama & NW Florida due to earlier storms. At the moment, heavy rain is happening in spots along the I-65 corridor near Greenville. Small showers are also happening in Washington & Baldwin counties… pic.twitter.com/VTEnaFnHFh

If your favorite radar app doesn't seem to be working properly this afternoon, this is probably why. Some data (Level 3) is up, but the high-res data is out at the moment for several south AL & Florida Panhandle radars. https://t.co/WrBSJ3sAYY

MANY STORMS EAST OF I-65… Showers and thunderstorms have been numerous today across the eastern half of our local area. Scattered thunderstorms are producing heavy downpours of rain, lightning/thunder, and gusty winds. So far, no severe issues. Most of the storms today will stay well under severe limits. Storms will continue to pop up across our area and move eastward over the next few hours.
RADARS ARE DOWN… The high-resolution radar data from our two local radars (KMOB at Mobile, AL and KEVX at Eglin AFB in NW Florida) are temporarily down. Above is a shot of the Level 3 “backup” data. I have contacted the National Weather Service to see when the radars will return to service. Data in our RedZone Weather Interactive Radar and other radar apps are currently down.

Numerous showers and thunderstorms continue across our area, mainly along and east of Interstate 65… Big time rain and lots of lightning happening near Wing, Pleasant Home, Carolina, Loango, Bradley, Robinsonville. Storms are slowly moving east. pic.twitter.com/6JaOWgArFm

Storms will inevitably be around in scattered spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida in each of the next 7 days… Greatest rain chance will happen tomorrow (Tuesday) through Thursday. ⛈ pic.twitter.com/Lvoh3cl4aL

Scattered thunderstorms have popped up across Escambia (AL) County & much of northwest Florida… At the moment, heavier rain is happening over Brewton, East Brewton, Brownsdale, Pace, Woodbine, Holt, & Fort Walton Beach. Be ready for scattered downpours over the next few hours! pic.twitter.com/4rvYmjeV0Y

STORMS LIKELY LATER TODAY; HEAT & HUMIDITY CONTINUE… Another round of showers and thunderstorms will pop up across south Alabama and northwest Florida this afternoon/evening. The greatest chance of rain will happen in communities south and east of Interstate 65, although I can’t rule out storms for anyone across our region. Expect scattered downpours! That’s been the message over what seems like the last few months, and today is no exception. High temperatures will be around 90° this afternoon.
MORE RAIN FOR MIDWEEK… Scattered thunderstorms are expected over the next few days across our region. Rain amounts, according to the latest Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, show upwards of 2-3” of rain (in total) being possible over the next 5 days. All of this won’t happen at one time, most likely, but will accumulate through each passing shower/thunderstorm over the next few days. Again, coverage of storms should be greater south and east of Interstate 65 with slightly lesser rain amounts for communities in west Alabama.
TROPICS QUIET; AUGUST USUALLY AN ACTIVE MONTH… Retierating what we discussed yesterday, the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean remain quiet, with no tropical storm formation expected over the next 5-7 days. August 1 is on Wednesday. Typically, August is the second most active month of the Atlantic Hurricane Season each year. I’ll be keeping close tabs on the tropics over the next 2 months, but for now, no issues to speak of. Good news!
APP ALERTS… Because vast majority of the thunderstorms today will be well under severe limits, yet still strong enough to produce heavy rain and lots of lightning, I’ll have all of your updates here in the RedZone Weather app. Be sure to visit the Alerts tab (bottom right corner) and then tap the large, yellow “Alert Settings” button to customize the alerts you want to get from me. I send MANY Low-Level Alerts each week about the (non-severe) thunderstorms!
I’ve got all the forecast details for you in your Monday #rzw forecast video that will be posted shortly here in the RZWeather app… Have a nice day!
Be ready for scattered downpours of heavy rain ⛈ today, especially this afternoon/evening. Scattered thunderstorms are again likely across south Alabama & NW Florida… Enjoy your Monday! pic.twitter.com/fLQ5V4jJUW
