STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY SUNDAY… There is a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) risk of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms across parts of west Alabama late Saturday evening into early Sunday morning. This will be a line of thunderstorms that is weakening by the time it reaches our area, but there is a chance the storms still could be marginally severe by the time they reach west Alabama. Much of the daytime hours of Saturday will be dry and warm with temperatures peaking near 80° in most spots. Rain chances will rise late in the day when we may have a few showers. Storms will be possible after 10PM Saturday. Much cooler air is slated to move in behind the advancing cold front late Sunday. Let’s look at the details.

LEVEL 1 RISK FOR WEST ALABAMA… The Storm Prediction Center includes parts of west Alabama in their Level 1 (out of 5) low-end, marginal risk zone meaning there is a chance of a few isolated strong or potentially severe thunderstorms. We expect vast majority of the severe weather issues on Saturday to happen earlier in the day and well to the west of our area. Parts of Clarke, Washington, Mobile, Choctaw, Wilcox, and Marengo counties are involved in the low-end, Level 1 risk zone. This includes places like Thomasville, Coffeeville, Chatom, Wilmer, Citronelle, Vinegar Bend, Jackson, Leroy, Millry, Butler, Sweet Water, Demopolis, and Linden.

WEAKER STORMS FOR SOUTH CENTRAL AL & NW FL… Storms could be strong at times, but overall will probably be weakening as they cross our area from west to east. We note 80 percent of our local area (basically the Alabama River and points eastward) is included in the General Thunderstorms zone as opposed to a formal severe weather risk zone. This includes locales like Mobile, Pensacola, Fairhope, Monroeville, Evergreen, Greenville, Andalusia, Opp, Brewton, Atmore, Century, Flomaton, Jay, Navarre, Milton, Pace, Crestview, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and surrounding areas. Keep in mind that some or all of these areas may be included in a higher risk zone as the event draws closer.

SEVERE WEATHER TIMING… Isolated rain showers are possible as early as 6PM across the region, but I would suggest rain chances will remain at or below 10% before 9PM. Showers will pick up in number through midnight. The core timeframe for severe weather for west Alabama will happen from 10PM Saturday to 7AM Sunday with the core risk being from midnight to 4AM. We will continue to observe model trends and bring you updates in the hours ahead. Be sure to check back with me for the very latest tomorrow and on Saturday morning.

LEVEL 2 RISK ACROSS PARTS OF MISSISSIPPI AND LOUISIANA… The greater severe weather issues will almost certainly happen across parts of east Texas, southern Arkansas, northern Louisiana, and western Mississippi. Those are the areas included in the slightly higher Level 2 (out of 5) slight risk zone. This includes places like Baton Rouge, Jackson (MS), Alexandria, Monroe, Shreveport, Natchez, Brookhaven, Vicksburg, Ruston, Natchitoches, Lake Charles, and Yazoo City. Isolated tornadoes and damaging straight line winds will be MORE likely to occur in those areas.

MUCH COOLER TEMPS SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… Temperatures will drastically decrease as we go into the early part of next week due to a cold front that will cross our area from west to east on Sunday morning. High temperatures Monday into Tuesday will drop into the mid-50s with morning lows in the low- to mid-30s.

PERFECT THANKSGIVING WEATHER; STORMS RETURN LATE SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY… Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at RedZone Weather! We have so much to be thankful for this year and every year. Thank you for watching our coverage day in, day out, empowering us to bring you the very latest weather information every, single day. We appreciate your support! Absolutely gorgeous weather is on tap for south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thanksgiving Day. Temperatures are set to peak near the 70 degree mark this afternoon. Mostly sunny skies are expected as we go into the afternoon and evening hours. If you’re headed out late tonight or early on Black Friday for shopping, temperatures will be in the 50s under mostly clear skies. More sunshine is in store for Friday and Saturday ahead of our next storm system Saturday night. That is when we could have a few strong storms around. Let’s look at your forecast details.

TEMPERATURES TO REMAIN MILD THROUGH SATURDAY… Overall, our weather pattern will be calm through Saturday morning. Temperatures will be at or slightly above our climatological norms for this time of year in the temperature department. Highs today peak near 70°, lows tonight in the 50s, highs in the mid-70s on Friday, and highs in the upper-70s on Saturday. Enjoy the warmer temps while they last, however, as we have a big blast of cold air set to invade our region on Sunday as a strong cold front pushes through.

RAIN & STORMS SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY… Since yesterday morning, parameters seem to have backed off slightly for the potential for strong to severe storms across our region late Saturday into early Sunday. That’s not to say we’re out of the woods at all, but compared to yesterday, it certainly seems like based on the timing of the system that instability will yet again be the limiting factor in this severe weather potential.

STORM TIMING SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY… Saturday morning will be dry. There could be a few scattered showers or thunderstorms, especially across west Alabama on Saturday afternoon. Rain coverage will increase from west to east after 7PM Saturday evening. The window for severe weather locally will happen from 8PM Saturday to 8AM on Sunday with the core risk time being from 10PM to 4AM. If we happen to have strong storms locally, they most likely will happen over west Alabama in Choctaw, Marengo, Clarke, or Washington counties. This is because as this system moves east, it will likely run out of instability for storms to work with, thus limiting the overall severe weather risk farther east. We will continue to refine details and get more specific tonight and on Friday. Be sure to check back with me around 8PM tonight for an update.

STREAK OF SUNNY, COOL DAYS NEXT WEEK… After the rain on Sunday, temperatures will be sharply cooler due to the passage of a cold front. High temps on Monday will drop into the 50s with overnight lows expected to be around the freezing mark on Tuesday morning. Plenty of sunshine is likely on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the upcoming week.

RAIN MOVES OUT LATER TODAY; MILD THANKSGIVING; WEEKEND STRONG STORMS… Showers and thunderstorms in place across parts of south Alabama and northwest Florida will progressively move east of our area later this morning into the early afternoon hours. We have essentially escaped another potential for severe weather today, but our luck may run out as we go into Saturday and Sunday as strong to severe thunderstorms may become possible ahead of a strong cold front. Parameters appear to be more supportive for the potential for strong storms capable of producing damaging winds and potentially a few, isolated tornadoes this weekend. While temperatures will continue to be slightly above our climatological norms through Saturday, next week looks to feature sharply colder temperatures. Let’s look at all the details in order.

NO WEATHER ISSUES ON THANKSGIVING DAY… Partly cloudy skies are expected for Thanksgiving Day. High temperatures will be around 72° in most spots. No rain is expected on Thursday! Gorgeous day! Patchy fog is possible in the early morning hours.

COOL & DRY FOR BLACK FRIDAY MORNING… If you are headed out for shopping late Thursday night or early Friday morning, temperatures will be in the 50s. No rain is expected and skies will be mostly clear.

GORGEOUS, MILD FRIDAY… Gorgeous weather is likely on Black Friday with high temperatures surging into the upper-70s across the region. Clouds will be on the increase late in the day. If your local high school football team is still in the AHSAA playoffs, there’s good news in that game time temperatures at the 7PM kickoff will be quite mild (low-60s) with no rain issues expected. Temperatures will fall into the mid-50s by the 4th quarter of each game.

CLOUDS RETURN ON SATURDAY… Ahead of our next potent cold front, clouds are set to increase in coverage across the area on Saturday morning and afternoon. High temperatures on Saturday might make a run at the 80 degree mark. We could have a few showers late in the day on Saturday.

IRON BOWL FORECAST ON TRACK… Please note this forecast is specific to Auburn, Alabama and is not indicative of forecast conditions in south Alabama or northwest Florida. Unfortunately, rain chances on Saturday have increased for Auburn where the Iron Bowl is set to happen. We’ll call it a 20% chance of showers from Noon to 4PM then a 50-60% chance of showers from 4PM to 8PM in Auburn. The game kicks off at 2:30PM CST and will be televised on local CBS stations. Temperatures will be consistently in the low-70s for the duration of the game. It won’t be too cold, but there is a chance fo a few showers in the latter half of the game. Take the ponchos just in case Jordan-Hare Stadium happens to be under one of the showers. Any severe weather risk that sets up probably will be on the west side of the state Saturday afternoon, meaning there very likely won’t be any severe weather issues in Auburn Saturday afternoon.

SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL SETS UP FOR SATURDAY… We are now seeing evidence of a potential for strong to severe thunderstorms Saturday P.M. into Sunday A.M. as a strong cold front arrives from the northwest. We’ll be able to get more concrete about the potential timeframe over the next few days. Atmospheric instability/CAPE looks to be in excess of 700 j/kg on Saturday afternoon, which could help storms to fire up. In addition, shear values look to be quite high with this event as is often the case in these cold season severe weather setups. This will likely be a situation where the overall severe weather risk will increase from west to east on Saturday as we go into the late evening hours.

POTENTIAL HAZARDS SATURDAY EVENING INTO SUNDAY MORNING… Damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes will be the main concerns this weekend with this passing cold front. It is too early to know the magnitude of how this event will set up. Details will become more clear later today and on Thanksgiving Thursday. Be sure to check back with me for the very latest.

MUCH COLDER NEXT WEEK… After the cold front passes on Sunday, temperatures are poised to be much colder for next week. High temperatures Monday into Tuesday will drop back into the mid-50s with overnight lows perhaps near the freezing mark.

HURRICANE SEASON ENDS SATURDAY… The tropics are quiet, as should be the case as we close out hurricane season. The 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially ends on Saturday, November 30. The season will go down as a very active season with 18 named storms in total.

STRONG STORM NEAR PERDUE HILL SHORTLY… The severe thunderstorm in Clarke County is about to cross into the western parts of Monroe County near Perdue Hill shortly. Very heavy rain and gusty winds are happening near Gosport as this storm moved eastward. The storm is likely falling below severe limits, but it is still strong.

WHAT TO EXPECT – NEXT HOUR… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to move eastward across parts of west Alabama. The overall severe weather risk remains very low. There could be some embedded thunder and lightning at times through 8AM, but overall storms are slowly weakening.
