MOSTLY SUNNY TODAY; RAIN & A FEW STORMS LIKELY ON WEDNESDAY… We get a break from the rain today but not for long as showers are expected to return to our local area on Wednesday and then again on Friday. Temperatures today will peak in the mid-60s across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Unlike yesterday when most spots ended up staying covered in clouds for much of the daylight hours, today will feature more sunshine across the region. Rain will return on Wednesday ahead of dry conditions Thursday before another round of rain on Friday. Your full forecast details are below.

DRY TODAY; FEW CLOUDS LATER THIS EVENING… No significant weather issues are expected on this Tuesday other than the few areas of fog in place across the region this morning. High temperatures will peak in the mid-60s today. Cloud coverage will probably increase this evening across the region ahead of a few showers becoming possible over west Alabama late tonight, long after sunset. Temperatures this evening will be in the mid-50s.

RAIN LIKELY WEDNESDAY; A FEW THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE… Intermittent rain will be the big weather story locally on Wednesday. Keep the rain gear handy throughout the day as a dreary, wet, cool pattern will be in place. The good news is I am not expecting any severe weather issues for land areas on Wednesday. There could be a few isolated thunderstorms closer to the immediate coast and certainly offshore, but thunderstorm action should be very limited to nonexistent over land areas. Atmospheric instability, especially rooted at the surface level, will be near zero. There could be some elevated storms, meaning you may hear some thunder at times. The overall severe weather risk should remain near zero, however. I will be posting radar updates throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app.

PARTLY CLOUDY ON THURSDAY AHEAD OF RAIN FRIDAY… Thursday will feature another break from the rain with temperatures in the low-60s by mid-afternoon. Skies will remain partly cloudy throughout the day on Thursday.

ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN ON FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY… Another area of low pressure will move our way from the west on Friday, meaning yet another rain chance for the entire area. Severe weather parameters remain low, but we will have to monitor for a few general thunderstorms throughout the day.

DRIER & TRENDING A BIT WARMER THIS WEEKEND… Showers may linger into the very early morning hours of Saturday, but clearing skies are likely by the late morning hours. High temperatures will creep up into the mid-60s on Saturday. We will approach 70 on Sunday! I expect skies to be mostly sunny on Sunday ahead of another rain chance setting up for early next week.

CLEARING SKIES LATER TODAY; RAIN AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY… Lingering showers and clouds will progressively move out and to our east on this Monday as temperatures rise into the mid-60s by the afternoon hours. We have somewhat of a mixed bag of weather in the next few days in terms of rain, but temperatures will be remarkably consistent over the next 7 to 10 days. Tuesday will be dry, Wednesday will likely be wet, Thursday will be dry, while Friday will likely be wet. I see nothing in the model guidance to suggest any widespread weather hazards across our area over the next 7 days. Rain will be possible at times, but overall we are in a pretty quiet pattern. Don’t get used to it though. Active weather is inevitable this time of year! Let’s look at your forecast details.

TEMPS NEAR CLIMATOLOGICAL NORMS… High temperatures will be within 5 degrees (higher or lower) of the 60 degree mark through Sunday. It is the same story with our overnight lows. Most spots will generally be in the low-40s each morning through Sunday. Those temperatures are exactly where climatology data suggests our long-term average should be for late January.

SKIES TO CLEAR FROM WEST TO EAST TODAY… All of the rain will have shifted to our east into southeast Alabama and the Florida Panhandle region by Noon. Cloud coverage should decrease from west to east this afternoon into the evening hours. I expect some spots to have peeks of sunshine for multiple hours today. High temperatures will be in the mid-60s around 2PM.

MAINLY SUNNY ON TUESDAY… Sunny skies are likely on Tuesday morning with temperatures rising into the low-60s by Noon. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-60s with a few passing clouds possible in the afternoon and evening hours. No rain is expected on Tuesday, but rain is set to return on Wednesday.

SHOWERS LIKELY WEDNESDAY… Another area of low pressure will move near or across our region on Wednesday, meaning scattered rain showers will again be possible. Surface-based instability looks to remain low or near zero in most spots, meaning thunderstorms will likely be limited to areas near the immediate coastline. Severe weather is not expected with this system. Temperatures will be in the upper-50s throughout the day on Wednesday.

DRY THURSDAY; RAIN FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY… We get a break from the rain on Thursday ahead of yet another area of low pressure approaching from the west. Rain will be possible Friday evening into Saturday morning. The overall chance of any strong to severe thunderstorms currently looks low. We’ll keep you posted this week in the RedZone Weather app.

LIGHT RAIN CONTINUES… Areas of light rain continue to move eastward across the region as of 9:50PM. Slightly heavier rain showers are happening near Tensaw, Stockton, and Bay Minette right now. Severe weather is NOT expected overnight. Widespread thunderstorms are not expected either since instability remains at or near zero. Most of the showers should move to the east of our area by 9AM.

RAIN AT TIMES THROUGH TONIGHT; SEASONAL WEEK AHEAD… Sprinkles and several areas of light to moderate rain are happening across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Sunday evening. Temperatures won’t be moving much at all over the next 6-8 hours. Most spots are in the low-50s as of 1:30PM. High temperatures will be in the 51-54° range today. Rain will move to our east early on Monday morning. We dry out on Monday ahead of a nice Tuesday with slightly warmer temperatures. The dry conditions won’t last long, however, as Wednesday is when our next chance of rain happens. Another area of low pressure will move by on Friday into early Saturday, meaning yet another chance of rain. Let’s look at your Sunday evening forecast details.

SPRINKLES AND DREARINESS ACROSS THE REGION NOW… The coverage of light to moderate rain continues to increase across southwest Alabama and northwest Florida at the time this video is being produced (1:30PM Sunday). At the moment, the heaviest rain locally is happening across parts of southern Baldwin, Mobile, and Washington counties. I suspect that rain will be a bit heavier over parts of west Alabama in the next few hours. I am not expecting many, if any, thunderstorms today as there is simply no instability in place for storms to fire up. Rain will linger into the evening hours.

RAIN CLEARS OUT EARLY MONDAY… Most of our region should be dry by 6AM Monday. There could be a few lingering showers across parts of Covington, Butler, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties early Monday morning, but these showers will clear out by 9AM. Skies will remain cloudy through the morning hours on Monday but there will be some peeks of sunshine in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures on Monday will be in the mid- to upper-60s.

MOSTLY SUNNY TUESDAY… There is a high chance that Tuesday will be the nicest day, overall, out of the next 7 days. Mostly sunny skies are expected with temperatures peaking in the mid-60s. Clouds will probably increase in coverage late in the day ahead of our next rain chance slated for Wednesday.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE ON WEDNESDAY… An area of low pressure will move by our region on Wednesday, paving the way for scattered rain and maybe a few thunderstorms. If any thunderstorms happen, they will likely be well below severe limits. Storms are more likely to happen closer to the immediate coast where instability values will be above zero. High temperatures on Wednesday will be in the low-60s.

ANOTHER CHANCE OF SHOWERS LATER THIS WEEK… While Thursday will likely be dry with a few passing clouds, Friday will be when our area will be on the north side of a low pressure area that passes to our south in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This means our area will remain in the cool sector with no severe weather issues, under this particular model scenario. It looks like the greatest chance of rain will happen in the P.M. hours of Friday, although we still have several days between now and then. I’ll have updates throughout the week in the RedZone Weather app.
