VERY COLD TEMPS & WIND CHILL VALUES NEXT WEEK; 6 STRAIGHT SUBFREEZING NIGHTS EXPECTED… Very cold temperatures are coming to south Alabama and northwest Florida next week after the passage of a cold front early Monday morning. That same cold front will bring with it a chance of strong thunderstorms to our area late Sunday night into early Monday morning. The map attached highlights the projected wind chill values at 6AM on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Air temperatures won’t be far from these numbers. High temperatures on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are only projected to be in the 40s each day.

MILD TEMPS TOMORROW AND SUNDAY… This weekend will be the time to get ready for the prolonged (by our local standards, anyway) cold snap. Highs will be near the 60 degree mark on Saturday and closer to 70° on Sunday. This will provide plenty of opportunity for us to wrap pipes, bring in outdoor plants that may not have already been inside, and get a place ready inside for pets that are currently outside. Air temperatures will be in the low 20s by the time we get to Wednesday morning.

ROUND OF STORMS ON SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY… The overall severe weather risk on Sunday will maximize to our west. I am expecting a line of thunderstorms to move into west Alabama probably after midnight on Sunday night into early Monday morning. This line of storms is expected to be weakening, but it still may be strong enough to produce a few areas of damaging wind gusts and maybe even a tornado or two. Widespread, significant severe weather is not expected locally. I will have another update about this posted tomorrow (Saturday).

APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.

I will have more updates posted on Saturday and Sunday ahead of our low-end severe weather setup coming Sunday night into Monday morning. Have a nice Friday evening!
