SHOWERS AT TIMES TODAY AND FRIDAY; RAIN LIKELY THIS WEEKEND; QUITE COLD NEXT WEEK… Spotty rain showers will be possible throughout the day across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday. Temperatures will be warmer than yesterday with most spots reaching the upper 60s by 2PM. Some communities may briefly hit the 70 degree mark today. Isolated sprinkles and showers will continue to be possible tonight and into the overnight hours. Overnight lows will be in the mid 50s by daybreak on Friday. Tomorrow, afternoon highs will again be in the 60s with scattered showers around. Temperatures will remain mild into the weekend with rain (and perhaps a few thunderstorms) being possible across the local area. We’ll be tracking a major winter storm in areas to our north and west through the weekend.
RAIN THIS WEEKEND; A FEW THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE… Scattered showers will continue to be possible today, tonight, Friday, and into Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon into the evening hours is when rain chances are expected to significantly rise across the region with numerous showers becoming likely with a few thunderstorms being possible. Temperatures through Sunday will be a bit ABOVE our climatological norms for this time of year. Precipitation across south Alabama and northwest Florida will likely be exclusively in the form of rain with no real chance of sleet or freezing rain, per the latest model guidance.
ICE STORM LIKELY TO OUR NORTH AND WEST THIS WEEKEND… Widespread, potentially significant impacts are likely this weekend due to what will likely be a prolific ice storm. The system will likely stretch from Texas to the Carolinas with impacts being possible in parts of north Alabama, north Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, north Georgia, and surrounding areas. Long-lasting power outages will become possible in areas that are affected by significant ice accretions.
COLD TEMPERATURES ARRIVE LOCALLY SUNDAY NIGHT; COLD NEXT WEEK… High temperatures are projected to be in the mid 60s on Sunday. A cold front slowly moving in from the northwest will bring in much colder temperatures to our region Sunday night. Overnight lows by 6AM Monday will probably be in the 20s. Highs on Monday may struggle to get to the 40s in some communities. Multiple nights with temperatures in the 20s are likely next week. Despite us having some cold air at times over the last few weeks, the upcoming week will be the overall coldest week we have had so far this winter season. Highs will be near 40° on Monday, mid 40s on Tuesday, and 50s on Wednesday.
