SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS STORMS FOR MEMORIAL DAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely at times, particularly this afternoon into this evening, across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Memorial Day Monday. It likely won’t rain all day in any given community, but odds are high that we will have quite a few thunderstorms in the hours ahead. The overall severe weather risk remains low. Gusty winds and hail may be possible in some of the stronger storms today. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 80s. Looking ahead through the week and into the weekend, a consistent pattern with pop-up storms each day seems likely.

LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK TO THE EAST… The Storm Prediction Center has defined a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk for parts of southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and into Georgia. Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Florala, Lockhart, Paxton, Troy, Auburn (AL), Dothan, Enterprise, Geneva, Samson, Eufaula, Elba, and Abbeville are involved in the low-end severe weather risk zone today. Gusty winds are the main concern in any storms that can briefly become strong or marginally severe.

POP-UP STORMS LIKELY IN EACH OF THE NEXT 7 DAYS… It is the classic early summer pattern coming up this week with scattered to numerous pop-up thunderstorms each day. These scattered storms will really help to chip away at the ongoing drought, on top of the rain that has happened in previous days. Storms will be most numerous each day in the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will be quite consistent as well. High temperatures will be in the 80s each day this week with overnight lows in the upper 60s.

TROPICS QUIET; HURRICANE SEASON BEGINS IN ONE WEEK… The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially kicks off one week from today on Monday, June 1. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released their annual hurricane season forecast last week. NOAA is projecting a below normal hurricane season due to the expectation of El Niño developing. The agency is calling for 8-14 named storms, 3-6 hurricanes, and 1-3 major hurricanes across the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf.
