HOT TEMPS TODAY & SATURDAY; RAIN CHANCES SLIGHTLY INCREASING THIS WEEKEND… Plenty of sunshine and hot temperatures are expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. There will be a few passing cumulus clouds at times, but widespread rain is not expected today. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s today. Slightly drier air remains in place, which will prevent heat index values from reaching advisory criteria despite the hot temperatures. Saturday will be even hotter in many communities, with highs generally in the mid to upper 90s. Rain chances will begin to increase slightly this weekend as moisture gradually returns.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TO BE DRY FOR NEARLY EVERYONE THIS EVENING… Dry weather is in store this evening for the high school football games across the local area. Temperatures will be in the low 80s around 7PM. By 9PM, we’ll be in the mid to upper 70s in most communities.

A FEW EVENING POP-UP SHOWERS & STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY; HOT TEMPS… A few isolated, pop-up showers and thunderstorms will become possible Saturday during the P.M. hours. Rain coverage will remain quite limited, and most communities will remain dry throughout the day. There is no formal severe weather risk in place for Saturday. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s, with a few of the hottest inland communities approaching 100Ā°.

SLIGHTLY INCREASED RAIN CHANCES ON SUNDAY… More showers and thunderstorms will become possible Sunday as an upper-level low moves westward and brings more moisture into our local area. Storm coverage will likely be greatest closer to the coast before showers and storms move inland during the afternoon. This does not look like an all-day washout, but more communities will have rain Sunday compared to Saturday. High temperatures will range from the upper 80s to mid 90s.

P.M. SHOWERS & STORMS EACH DAY NEXT WEEK… Scattered, pop-up showers and thunderstorms will be possible Monday through Thursday as the upper-level low remains in the general vicinity of the northern Gulf. Rain chances will generally be in the 30-50% range Monday through Wednesday before decreasing somewhat Thursday. Continuous rain is not expected, but at least some communities will have P.M. storms each day. Temperatures will gradually trend lower, with highs mainly in the upper 80s and low 90s through Wednesday and Thursday.

TROPICS: DISTURBANCE IN NORTH-CENTRAL ATLANTIC… The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor INVEST 98L, an area of low pressure located several hundred miles east of Bermuda in the central/subtropical Atlantic. Showers and thunderstorms remain limited in organization, but environmental conditions could support gradual development. A tropical depression could form before conditions become less favorable by Sunday. NHC indicates a 40% chance of development over the next 7 days.

TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN REMAIN QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any tropical disturbances in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea at this point. Great news, especially considering we are not far from the climatological peak of Atlantic hurricane season that happened one week ago.
