CLOUDY & MILD WEDNESDAY; RAIN & SCATTERED STORMS AT TIMES THURSDAY… Skies will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day on this Wednesday across the region. Afternoon highs will be in the 60s this afternoon with rain on the way tonight into Thursday. Scattered showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms will become possible late tonight into Thursday. The overall risk of any severe storms remains quite low, although we will be watching a warm front moving onshore into northwest Florida tomorrow that may provide a brief window for a few stronger storms. Rain moves out late tomorrow night into early Friday, paving the way for sunshine by Friday afternoon. Early next week looks increasingly mild and nice.
RAIN AT TIMES TOMORROW; A FEW STORMS POSSIBLE… The overall risk of severe storms on Thursday remains quite low. The National Weather Service forecast office in Mobile indicates in their forecast discussion that they’ll be watching the warm front moving onshore carefully, just in case a strong or marginally severe thunderstorm develops. The overall chance of this happening is very low. IF (and that’s a big IF) any severe storms developed, it would likely be near the northwest Florida coast where surface-based instability is located. Most communities will simply have rain and thunder at times late Wednesday night into Thursday and Thursady evening.
SUNSHINE RETURNS FOR FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND… We get a brief cooldown on Friday ahead of warmer temperatures coming in the second half of the weekend. Skies will likely be mostly cloudy in most spots locally early Friday morning ahead of clearing skies in the late morning and early afternoon hours. Friday afternoon and the daytime hours of Saturday will feature sunny skies. High temperatures on Friday will be in the low 60s. Some locales may briefly reach the freezing mark early Saturday morning before temperatures rebound into the 60s Saturday afternoon.
HIGHS IN THE 70s NEXT WEEK… Christmas Eve is now within the 7 Day Forecast and we can confidently say that warm temperatures are likely for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Highs on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Christmas Eve Wednesday of the upcoming week will be in the low 70s. Overnight lows will be in the 40s and 50s each day. I realize a lot of folks want a chilly Christmas, but it simply is not going to happen this year across south Alabama or northwest Florida. Highs will likely be in the low 70s for Christmas Day. Excellent news for folks traveling – mild temperatures and dry conditions.
