MOSTLY CLOUDY MONDAY; MILD DAYS THIS WEEK… Skies will be mostly cloudy on this Monday with afternoon highs topping out in the upper 60s and low 70s across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Patchy areas of dense fog this morning will burn off by 9AM. Fog will be a concern again tomorrow morning. More in the way of sunshine is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures peaking in the 70s each day. Our next chance of rain and thunderstorms happens on Friday into Saturday as a cold front approaches from the northwest.

MILD DAYS, COOL NIGHTS THIS WEEK… Temperatures will continue run above our climatological norms for this time of year over the next several days. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 70s on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Overnight lows will be in the 50s. No rain is expected until Thursday. I expect much of the daytime hours of Thursday to be dry. Showers will become possible in the evening hours.

SHOWERS & STORMS LIKELY AT TIMES FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Friday into Saturday as an area of low pressure develops well to our west and brings in an accompanying cold front. This will put much of the Deep South in a warm sector, allowing scattered showers and thunderstorms to be possible. Details remain a bit murky at this point (as the event is 5-6 days out) but there have been intermittent model signals pointing to at least some risk of a few strong to severe storms being possible. Where this risk will primarily set up remains to be seen, but part or most of our local area may be involved in severe weather risk zones later this week. Please check back in over the next few days for updates.

COOLER TEMPERATURES LIKELY RETURN NEXT WEEK… After the passage of the cold front this weekend, next week looks much more winter-like across the region with afternoon highs likely to be in the 50s by Monday of the upcoming week. I don’t see any long duration cold outbreaks across the eastern part of the U.S. anytime soon in the model guidance, but we will have cool spells like what will probably happen early next week.
