FEW SHOWERS TODAY & FRIDAY; SCATTERED STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY; COOLER SUNDAY… Sprinkles and showers will be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday. Just like yesterday and just like what will happen tomorrow, not every community will have rain before the end of the day. Many, in fact, won’t have any rain at all. Showers will be quite spotty in nature and won’t last long in any one location. Rain amounts will generally be less than 0.05″ in total. Afternoon high temperatures will be near record territory today with most communities rising into the low 80s.

SCATTERED STORMS ON SATURDAY… Unlike most wintertime severe weather setups when shear is prolific and surface-based instability is quite low, we have a situation on Saturday that is the opposite of that. We may have a notable amount (1,000 j/kg, perhaps) of instability present but shear values appear to be lacking. This is good news for our local area as this may inhibit, or at least tamp down, any severe storms across the local area. I expect storms to be quite scattered in nature on Saturday with the highest chances of storms happening across inland communities north of US84.

MUCH COLDER AIR ARRIVES EARLY NEXT WEEK… Cooler temperatures that have eluded our area over the last week or so will return on Saturday night into Sunday as a cold front moves from northwest to southeast across the local area. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the 60s. We may have some spots across the inland areas of southwest Alabama below freezing on Sunday night into early Monday morning. The bigger freeze will happen Monday night into Tuesday morning, however, when temperatures in the 20s are likely inland with mid to low 30s expected all the way down to the beaches. Thankfully, unlike the prolonged cold weather we had in January, this will be a quick-hitting cold snap that won’t last long. We’ll be in the 70s later next week.
