INCREASING CLOUDINESS & WARMER TODAY; SPOTTY STORMS THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY… Cloud coverage will steadily increase across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Wednesday. A few widely scattered sprinkles and showers will be possible throughout the day, particularly into the afternoon and evening hours. Most communities will remain dry today. Afternoon high temperatures will be about fifteen degrees above highs yesterday. Most locales will reach the 70-75° range today. Rain chances increase tomorrow ahead of a cold front passing through Friday morning. It won’t be colder at all Friday, however. The upcoming weekend will feature nice, warm weather.
A FEW SPRINKLES AND SHOWERS POSSIBLE TODAY… If you blink, you may miss the sprinkles and showers that develop today. These will be quick-hitting showers that move northeast very quickly. The showers that develop likely won’t last long at all. MOST communities across the region will remain dry today.
SCATTERED SHOWERS & STORMS THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY AHEAD OF COLD FRONT… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible Thursday into Friday as a cold front approaches our local area from the northwest. Widespread severe storms are not expected due to the lack of surface-based instability. Most of the major global weather models have consistently indicated CAPE/instability values will remain below 300 j/kg with this event. Generally, 500 j/kg is a good minimum number for most severe weather events. Plenty of shear will happen with this system, but the greater shear values will be displaced to our northeast. These factors point to not much in the way of severe weather impacts.
RAIN AMOUNTS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY… Ongoing drought conditions continue to gradually worsen across the region. Rain amounts through Friday are generally expected to be less than one half inch of rainfall in total across the region with isolated higher amounts being possible. That means this won’t be a particularly helpful system in terms of drought busting rain.
FANTASTIC WEATHER UPCOMING THIS WEEKEND… Afternoon high temperatures will be in the upper 70s on both Saturday and Sunday with partly cloudy skies in place each day. It should be a beautiful weekend for outdoor activities across the region!
QUITE WARM EARLY NEXT WEEK… High pressure will remain firmly in control of our local weather pattern into next week. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s with some communities making a run at the 80 degree mark by Monday. Dry conditions are expected Monday and Tuesday.
