SPOTTY SHOWERS THIS EVENING; SCATTERED STORMS ON SATURDAY… Most locales will remain dry on this Friday with only isolated showers and thunderstorms being possible this afternoon into this evening. Any areas that receive rainfall today won’t get much with any showers and thunderstorms being highly isolated in nature and not lasting long at all. High temperatures will again be in the mid 80s inland today with temperatures closer to the 80 degree mark near the coast this afternoon. We’re entering into a fairly unsettled pattern in the days ahead that will bring multiple chances of rain and perhaps some thunderstorms at times.
WEAKENING COMPLEX OF STORMS LIKELY TO APPROACH TOMORROW MORNING… Severe storms will be possible to our west today into tonight, specifically in parts of east Texas, southern Arkansas, and west-central Mississippi. Those are the zones included in the Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone valid for today. A complex of storms will develop and move east-southeast later today. This cluster of storms will likely reach west Alabama TOMORROW in the morning hours. It remains to be seen just how strong (or weak) this cluster of storms will be once it reaches our local area. The Storm Prediction Center has far western Alabama (right near the AL/MS state line) in a low-end severe weather risk driven exclusively by a gusty wind potential. Most models bring at least some rain into the western half of our local area tomorrow.
RAIN & STORM TIMING – TOMORROW… The cluster of storms will likely reach west Alabama in the morning hours between 5AM and 9AM. This decaying complex of storms will continue moving east-southeast. IF (and that’s a big IF!) it holds together, it would reach coastal Alabama and northwest Florida in the late morning or early afternoon hours. Right now, widespread severe storms seem highly unlikely across our region.
UNSETTLED PATTERN CONTINUES SUNDAY INTO NEXT WEEK… Multiple waves of scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible through the upcoming week. Rain chances won’t get down to zero on any day, but quite frankly, rain chances are not excessively high on any day in the upcoming week either. This points to scattered showers and storms being possible. Right now, it looks like Wednesday of the upcoming week may feature the best chance of rain and storms locally, but details may change as we move through the weekend.
