SPOTTY STORMS INLAND LATER TODAY; LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK LOCALLY WEDNESDAY… Spotty thunderstorms will be possible near and north of US84 later today. Most communities across south Alabama and northwest Florida will remain dry on this Tuesday, particularly if you are closer to the coast. We’ll be tracking multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms to our north today into tonight. Much of central and west Alabama are involved in a Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone. High temperatures will range from near 80 degrees at the immediate beaches to the upper 80s further inland. We have a low-end severe weather setup across our local area tomorrow (Wednesday, April 29).
LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK TOMORROW LOCALLY… The Storm Prediction Center has included ALL of south Alabama and northwest Florida in a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for Wednesday into Wednesday night. Scattered thunderstorms that develop tomorrow evening may become capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail. The overall tornado risk remains quite low. Not every community will have rain tomorrow, but where storms do fire, severe weather hazards will be possible. We note that the morning hours of Wednesday will probably not have any severe weather issues, with the potential for severe storms existing exclusively Wednesday P.M. into tomorrow night.
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – WEDNESDAY… 3PM to 11PM is the main eight hour window for strong to severe storms to develop on Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. It will NOT rain for the entire duration of the window. The window exists simply to let you know when severe storms may be possible. Thunderstorms will likely initiate on the northern side of our region and gradually move southeast throughout the evening.
LOWER-END RAIN CHANCES THURSDAY AND FRIDAY; COOLER TEMPS… Most communities will remain dry on Thursday and for much of the day on Friday. Isolated showers may be possible in the afternoon and evening hours each day, but I expect most communities to remain dry. High temperatures will be near the 80 degree mark on Thursday with highs in the upper 70s on Friday.
RAIN POSSIBLE AT TIMES SATURDAY… Multiple waves of rain and perhaps a few thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday. It seems like the morning hours will probably have more rain than the evening hours, based on early indications. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the low 70s Saturday afternoon due to all of the clouds and rain around.
