PARTLY CLOUDY THURSDAY; A FEW SPOTTY STORMS… Partly cloudy skies will happen across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday. Afternoon high temperatures will again be in the upper 80s and near the 90 degree mark. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible at times, particularly over west Alabama. There is a real chance most communities closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches will remain dry. Rain chances are set to slightly increase over the next few days.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE AT TIMES TOMORROW AND INTO THE WEEKEND… Rain chances are set to increase in the days ahead, but there is somewhat of a caveat. Locations north and west of Interstate 65 will have the highest rain chances tomorrow and into Saturday and Sunday. Locally, that means Washington, Clarke, and Monroe counties will have the highest rain chances. Rain amounts in these counties will likely be in the 1-2″ range in total through the weekend. Contrast that with communities closer to the coast like Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, and Destin where lower rain chances are expected throughout the weekend. That does NOT mean it won’t rain some in those communities. What it does mean is that rain chances are lower compared to places further inland in west Alabama, specifically. High temperatures will be in the 80s this weekend with morning lows in the upper 60s and near the 70 degree mark.
WIDESPREAD SEVERE STORMS NOT EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND… While the overall risk of damaging wind gusts and tornadoes will likely remain very low through the weekend, cloud-to-ground lightning will be a concern in the storms tomorrow and into the weekend. If you have outdoor plans, I would suggest having an indoor backup plan in case storms pop up near your event. I also would have a way to check the radar throughout the weekend as thunderstorms may develop quickly. Thankfully, these likely won’t be significant severe storms. I will have radar updates posted throughout the weekend in the RedZone Weather app.
CONSISTENT PATTERN INTO NEXT WEEK… The overall forecast looks quite consistent as we get into Memorial Day Monday AND into next week. Partly cloudy skies are likely each day next week with a chance of pop-up thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours. That is the “classic summer forecast” in south Alabama and northwest Florida. The rain will be beneficial as the entire local area remains included in severe drought zones. High temperatures will consistently be in the 80s next week with morning lows around 70°. Summertime is quickly approaching and the next 7 days are highly reflective of that.
