NICE, MOSTLY SUNNY FRIDAY; SCATTERED STORMS RETURN THIS WEEKEND… Skies will remain mostly sunny in most communities across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. High temperatures will be just a bit warmer than yesterday with most spots peaking in the upper 80s. Spotty showers and thunderstorms will become likely at times on Saturday with the greatest rain chances happening across parts of west Alabama. Rain chances will gradually increase this weekend and into early next week across the region as daily, pop-up showers and thunderstorms become likely each day.
POP-UP STORMS THIS WEEKEND… My advice to anyone with outdoor plans this weekend into early next week is proceed with your plans as long as you have an indoor backup. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible tomorrow and on Sunday with the greatest concentration of thunderstorms happening in the afternoon and evening hours. It will NOT rain all day in any given community. Storms will likely be most numerous in areas west of the Alabama River on Saturday, in parts of west Alabama. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s each day with morning lows in the upper 60s and near 70° this weekend.
HIGHER RAIN CHANCES EARLY NEXT WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms will be likely each day during the upcoming week. Midweek (Tuesday and Wednesday), in particular, looks to be quite wet with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms each day. I am not expecting widespread severe storms, but all of the storms that develop will be capable of producing heavy pockets of rain, cloud-to-ground lightning, and breezy conditions.
TROPICS: QUIET FOR NOW; ACTIVE EASTERN PACIFIC… The Gulf, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean will remain quiet this weekend and into early next week with no tropical storms expected to form. All of the tropical action so far has happened in the Eastern Pacific basin. Tropical Storm Amanda is happening several hundred miles southeast of Hawaii in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. Amanda will not directly affect land areas. We’re also watching two other disturbances in the Eastern Pacific that may become tropical storms in the days ahead. Both of these systems are near and just south of the Pacific coast of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center indicates there is 70% and 50% chance of these disturbances becoming named storms in the Pacific in the days ahead. Neither of these systems will directly affect Alabama or northwest Florida.
