SPOTTY STORMS THIS WEEKEND; RAIN CHANCES SPIKE MONDAY… Partly cloudy and hot conditions are in the forecast on this Friday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Rain chances remain quite low today (not completely zero, but quite low). Temperatures will rise into the mid 90s later today with heat index values at or just above the 100 degree mark. Heat index numbers factor in the actual air temperature plus humidity to create a value that tells us what the air feels like. Heat index values will be in the 100-105° range on Saturday. Hot temperatures persist through the weekend ahead of ever so slightly cooler temperatures coming next week. Highs will be in the 80s by Monday.
ISOLATED STORMS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY… Compared to the last few days, tomorrow and Sunday will feature slightly higher rain chances with more in the way of pop-up showers and storms around, mostly in the P.M. hours. It certainly won’t rain all day in any given location, but please have an indoor backup ready as spotty showers and storms will likely develop. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s this weekend with overnight lows in the low to mid 70s.
SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS STORMS NEXT WEEK; COOLER TEMPS… Rain chances will quickly increase on Monday and Tuesday as deep, tropical moisture streams into south Alabama and northwest Florida. Most of the pop-up thunderstorms that develop will happen in the afternoon and evening hours each day during the upcoming week. Slightly cooler temperatures are expected. High temperatures will be in the 80s with morning lows around 70°.
TROPICS: BAY OF CAMPECHE/SOUTHERN GULF DISTURBANCE… An area of low pressure may form today or tonight across the far southwestern Gulf in the Bay of Campeche region. The National Hurricane Center continues to indicate this system only has about a 10% chance of developing into a named tropical storm before moving into mainland Mexico on Saturday or Sunday. Environmental conditions are not exactly supportive for significant development. Rain will be possible in parts of mainland/eastern Mexico and perhaps south Texas due to this system in the days ahead.
TROPICS: CARIBBEAN & ATLANTIC QUIET, FOR NOW… The Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean are expected to remain quiet over the weekend and into early next week with no tropical storms expected to form.
