SCATTERED STORMS & HOT TEMPS TODAY; TRACKING TD2/BERTHA-TO-BE IN GULF… Scattered thunderstorms are expected to pop up across south Alabama and northwest Florida this afternoon into this evening. It certainly won’t feel like we have a tropical system close by in the northern Gulf as storms will be scattered in nature. There will be some sunshine throughout the day in most locales. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s in most communities with heat index values in the 105-110° range. Today will feel like one of the hottest days yet of 2026 with plenty of heat and prolific humidity. We continue to track TD2/Bertha-to-be, slowly moving north-northwest in the northeastern Gulf this morning.
LOCAL IMPACTS ASSESSMENT – TD2/BERTHA-TO-BE… Significant local impacts in south Alabama and northwest Florida remain unlikely due to what will be Tropical Storm Bertha. That does not mean isolated impacts won’t happen, but it does mean that widespread, significant, major impacts are not expected. Increased rain chances will be possible across the local area tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday. At least some risk of a few tornadoes may happen tomorrow P.M. into Wednesday, depending on the exact future track of TD2/Bertha-to-be. Flash flooding could become an issue if storms train over the same areas. The greatest probability of flash flooding will happen closer to the coast. Coastal hazards, including dangerous rip currents and high waves, will be possible through Thursday.
TO CANCEL OR NOT TO CANCEL YOUR BEACH TRIP… I have been asked by many, many people over the last few days about whether or not they should cancel their south Alabama and northwest Florida beach vacation plans for the upcoming week. Everyone has a different risk tolerance. What I can tell you is we will have higher rain chances at the coast through Wednesday due to this system. Breezy conditions will be possible at the coast. Isolated tornadoes may be a problem midweek. The latter half of the week should feature much better weather with our normal, intermittent showers and storms each afternoon and evening. Would I cancel? No, but my general thinking is I would much rather be at the beach even during more inclement weather. You might cancel under the same set of circumstances.
SPOTTY STORMS LATER THIS WEEK AND INTO WEEKEND… After TD2/Bertha-to-be moves west and into Louisiana and Texas, our area will return to a seasonal, summertime pattern with P.M. pop-up storms expected Thursday, Friday, and into Saturday. It won’t rain all day, but we will have an uptick of showers and storms in the afternoon and evening hours each day. High temperatures will continue to be in the 90s with morning lows in the 70s.
