TROPICAL DISTURBANCE DRIFTING WEST IN NORTHERN GULF… A weak area of low pressure centered about 125 miles south of Pensacola is producing showers and thunderstorms over the northern Gulf. The disturbance is expected to drift slowly westward during the next few days, potentially reaching the northwestern Gulf by midweek. The system remains poorly organized, and no tropical depression or named storm has formed so far. The National Hurricane Center gives the system a 20% chance of becoming a named tropical storm as westward movement continues.
20% CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM FORMATION OVER NEXT FEW DAYS… The National Hurricane Center indicates the chance of tropical development over the next 7 days is around a 20% chance. Regardless of development, the disturbance will produce showers and thunderstorms across the northern Gulf. The system may also enhance rain chances slightly in parts of Mississippi and Louisiana on Sunday. Intense downpours could cause localized nuisance-type flooding, particularly if multiple storms move over the same communities.
LOCAL FORECAST: P.M. STORMS, HEAT, & HUMIDITY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida over the next few hours and AGAIN on Sunday, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours. Rain coverage will be greatest closer to the coast, while fewer storms are expected farther inland. High temperatures on Sunday will generally be in the 87-93° range with heat index values reaching the 90s and near 100° in some communities. Any stronger storms may produce heavy rain, frequent lightning, and brief gusty winds. Widespread severe weather is not expected. Temperatures and humidity will trend higher next week, particularly by Wednesday through Friday, while scattered storms remain possible each day.
REMNANTS OF DOLLY MOVING WEST; REDEVELOPMENT POSSIBLE NEAR BAHAMAS… The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are located about 300 miles east of the Leeward Islands. Shower and thunderstorm activity remains disorganized, and the system does not have a closed circulation. Redevelopment is considered unlikely as the remnants move westward to west-northwestward near 25 mph, but NHC maintains a 10% chance of development over the next 7 days when the system arrives near The Bahamas. Locally heavy rain and gusty winds will be possible across portions of the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico during the next several days.
