SPOTTY P.M. STORMS & HOT TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TODAY… Spotty showers and thunderstorms will be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida today, primarily during the afternoon and evening hours. Storms will be widely spaced in nature, meaning many communities will remain dry while a few spots receive a localized downpour. Lightning and loud thunder will be possible in the stronger storms, but there is no formal severe weather risk locally. High temperatures will be in the 90-96° range with heat index values as high as 106°. We continue to track the tropical system in the northwestern Gulf that is moving toward the western Louisiana/east Texas coast this morning.
MORE OF THE SAME IN DAYS AHEAD: P.M. STORMS, HEAT, & HUMIDITY… Daily showers and thunderstorms will remain possible through the rest of the week. Storm coverage will increase tomorrow, with Thursday expected to be the wettest day as a weak disturbance moves westward along the northern Gulf Coast. Even with higher rain chances, rain is unlikely to continue all day in any one community.
HOT TEMPS THIS WEEKEND… Scattered storms will remain possible Friday through the weekend, although coverage should decrease somewhat compared to Thursday. High temperatures will generally remain in the 90s, with persistent humidity making it feel near or above 100° during the afternoon hours. Some of the hottest inland communities may reach the mid to upper 90s this weekend.
TROPICS: PTC5/EDOUARD IN NORTHWESTERN GULF… PTC5/Edouard-to-be continues moving slowly west-northwestward across the northwestern Gulf. In the latest available National Hurricane Center advisory, the system had maximum sustained winds near 35 mph and was expected to strengthen before reaching the southwestern Louisiana or east Texas coast today.
TROPICS: TROPICAL STORM WARNING TO OUR WEST… A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Port Bolivar, Texas, to the Vermilion/Cameron Parish Line in Louisiana. Tropical storm conditions, locally heavy rain, flash flooding, and minor storm surge flooding will be possible in the warned areas. No direct impacts are expected due to this system in south Alabama or northwest Florida. Dangerous rip currents will be possible at the local beaches.
TROPICS: REMNANTS OF T.S. DOLLY UNLIKELY TO DEVELOP… The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms near Hispaniola and eastward toward the northern Leeward Islands. Upper-level winds are expected to remain generally unfavorable as the system moves quickly west-northwestward. The National Hurricane Center indicates a near-zero chance of redevelopment over the next 48 hours and a low, 10% chance over the next 5-7 days. Locally heavy rain and gusty winds will remain possible across portions of the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and The Bahamas.
