HOT & HUMID TODAY; FEW P.M. STORMS; HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THURSDAY… Hot and humid conditions will continue across south Alabama and northwest Florida today. High temperatures will be in the 91-97° range with heat index values as high as 106°. A few isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon into this evening, with the greatest rain chances generally closer to the coast and across northwest Florida. Most inland communities will remain dry. Any storm that develops may produce a localized downpour, gusty winds, loud thunder, and cloud-to-ground lightning. There is no formal risk of severe weather locally today.
HIGHER RAIN CHANCES TOMORROW AND FRIDAY… Rain and thunderstorm coverage will increase tomorrow and Friday as deeper moisture moves into the region and the ridge of high pressure shifts eastward. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. It will not rain continuously, but more communities will have rain around tomorrow compared to today. A few storms could become strong with locally strong wind gusts and intense rainfall. Isolated nuisance-type flooding cannot be ruled out where heavy rain persists. There is no formal severe weather risk in place for tomorrow. Increased cloud cover and rain will likely keep temperatures somewhat lower, especially Friday.
HEAT, HUMIDITY, P.M. STORMS INTO THE WEEKEND… Heat and humidity will remain firmly in place this weekend despite daily chances of pop-up showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will generally be in the 90s, with some of the hottest inland communities reaching the upper 90s. Heat index values may reach the 103-110° range in a few spots, and heat-related advisories may become necessary for portions of the region this weekend into early next week. Scattered P.M. storms will remain possible Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, but an all-day washout is not expected.
TROPICS: EDOUARD WEAKENING WHILE PUSHING INTO TEXAS… Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall near Sabine Pass, TX yesterday evening. What is left of Edouard will continue moving northwest through east Texas today into tonight. The system will continue to weaken. Heavy rain will be possible at times today in parts of far western Louisiana and east Texas as Edouard dissipates.
TROPICS: REMAINDER OF ATLANTIC BASIN QUIET; REMNANTS OF DOLLY WON’T REDEVELOP… Other than Edouard, the National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any additional disturbances across the Atlantic Basin. Tropical development is not expected during the next 5-7 days across the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, or in the Gulf. The remnants of Dolly are no longer being highlighted as a disturbance, and redevelopment is not expected. This is exceptional news as September is historically the most active month of the Atlantic hurricane season.
