SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS POP-UP, P.M. STORMS TODAY & THRU THE WEEKEND… Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday, supported by deep moisture that continues to push into our region from the southeast. Rain will not be continuous, but many communities will have at least one passing storm throughout the day. Some communities will have multiple rounds of rain. A few storms may produce locally strong wind gusts, cloud-to-ground lightning, and intense downpours. Isolated nuisance-type flooding will be possible where heavy rain persists. Widespread severe weather is not expected, and no formal severe weather risk is in place today. High temperatures will range from 87 to 94 degrees with heat index values closer to 100 degrees.
AFTERNOON AND EVENING STORMS WILL BE THE NORM SATURDAY & SUNDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible tomorrow and Sunday, with most of the storms over land developing during the afternoon and evening hours. Saturday will likely be the wetter of the two days, although plenty of dry periods are expected throughout the weekend. Outdoor plans do not need to be cancelled, but an indoor backup will be useful in case a pop-up storm develops nearby. High temperatures will generally be in the low to mid 90s.
P.M. STORMS, SLIGHTLY HOTTER TEMPS NEXT WEEK… Daily chances of pop-up showers and thunderstorms will continue Monday into the middle part of next week. Storm coverage will remain elevated Monday before gradually decreasing Tuesday through Thursday. Temperatures will generally peak in the low to mid 90s each afternoon. The combination of heat and humidity may become more concerning Sunday and Monday, and heat-related products could become necessary for portions of the region early next week.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN (INCLUDING GULF & CARIBBEAN) QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any areas of potential tropical development in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea. No new tropical storms are expected to form across the Atlantic Basin over the next 5-7 days. While this would always be considered good news, this is particularly great news in the month of September as we approach the climatological peak of hurricane season.
