INCREASING COVERAGE OF SCATTERED P.M. STORMS TODAY & TOMORROW… P.M. showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage across south Alabama and northwest Florida today as deep moisture moves into our region. Scattered to numerous P.M. storms will be possible, with the greatest rain chances generally closer to the coast and across northwest Florida. I am not expecting any community to have an all day washout, but more communities will have rain before the end of the day. High temperatures will range from the upper 80s to mid 90s. Heavy downpours, lightning, and gusty winds will be possible in the stronger storms. Widespread severe weather is not expected today, however. We have a similar pattern upcoming for Friday and Saturday as well with scattered to numerous P.M. storms expected each day.
SCATTERED STORMS TOMORROW; SOME H.S. FOOTBALL GAMES MAY BE IMPACTED… Numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible tomorrow, including during the evening hours when high school football games are scheduled across the region. Some games may have rain or lightning delays around 7PM, while others may avoid storms entirely. Be ready to check the radar (redzoneweather.com/radar or the Radar tab of the RedZone Weather app) tomorrow afternoon and evening. Storms will move slowly, meaning localized heavy rain and nuisance-type flooding may develop where multiple storms affect the same communities. A few storms may produce gusty winds, but no formal severe weather risk is in place for Friday at this point.
ELEVATED CHANCES OF P.M. STORMS CONTINUE INTO THE WEEKEND… Higher rain chances will continue Saturday with numerous P.M. showers and thunderstorms possible across the region. Slow storm movement may again support localized heavy rainfall, especially where storms repeatedly develop or move over the same areas. Saturday will not be an all-day washout, but outdoor plans may have to be adjusted around nearby storms. Have an indoor backup plan ready just in case you’re near one of the storms. Rain chances begin to trend lower Sunday, although scattered, mostly P.M. storms will remain possible. High temperatures will generally be in the upper 80s to low 90s this weekend.
SCATTERED P.M. STORMS INTO NEXT WEEK… Rain chances will decrease further Monday as an upper ridge begins building back across the southeastern U.S. That doesn’t mean rain chances drop to zero as P.M. storms will continue to be possible. At least some chance of pop-up storms continues Tuesday and Wednesday as well. High temperatures will generally range from the upper 80s to mid 90s early next week.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN IS QUIET AT PEAK OF HURRICANE SEASON… We have reached the climatological peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Remarkably, the National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any tropical disturbances across the Atlantic Basin, including in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea. Tropical development is not expected during the next 5-7 days. We note the long range models don’t show any notable activity at this point either. That can change quickly, but for now, we will continue to enjoy a quiet tropical/hurricane map in the Atlantic Basin.
