QUITE HOT & HUMID TODAY AND TUESDAY; LOWER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEK… Hot temperatures and plenty of humidity are expected today across south Alabama and northwest Florida as an upper ridge of high pressure dominates our local weather pattern. This area of high pressure will limit rain chances across much of the region today with only a few widely scattered showers and storms being possible this afternoon into this evening. High temperatures will be in the 93-98° range with heat index values as high as 107° this afternoon. Rain chances are quite low today, but not exactly zero. A few brief showers may happen as we get into the early evening hours. The ridge will remain in place through Wednesday, suppressing storm development as progressively drier air moves into the region.
HEAT & HUMIDITY TOMORROW; RAIN CHANCES QUITE LOW… Tomorrow will be another hot and humid day with high temperatures in the mid 90s. Heat index values will again rise above 100° in many communities, potentially reaching 105° in a few spots. Rain chances will remain quite low on Tuesday.
SLIGHTLY LOWER TEMPS (STILL HOT!) LATER THIS WEEK… Temperatures will ease slightly beginning Wednesday, but it won’t be cool by any stretch. Highs will generally be in the low 90s Wednesday through Friday. Drier air will become more established Wednesday into Thursday, keeping rain chances very low. A few showers or thunderstorms may return to parts of the region Friday.
HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK LATER THIS WEEK… Definitely something to be aware of if you’re headed to the local beaches later this week: A High Risk of rip currents is expected at the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches Wednesday and Thursday. Dangerous rip currents can quickly pull even experienced swimmers away from shore.
ISOLATED P.M. STORMS THIS WEEKEND… A few pop-up showers and thunderstorms will become possible this weekend as moisture returns to the region. Rain chances will increase somewhat Saturday and Sunday, although this does not look like an all-day washout. Many communities will remain dry, especially Saturday. High temperatures will be in the low 90s this weekend.
TROPICS: DISTURBANCE IN NORTH-CENTRAL ATLANTIC… The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disturbed weather over the north-central Atlantic Ocean. This feature is well away from land areas. Strong upper-level winds are currently keeping the system disorganized, and development is not expected during the next 48 hours. Conditions may become somewhat more favorable by the middle to latter part of this week as the disturbance moves west-northwestward. There is a low, 20% chance of development over the next 7 days. This will be a system Bermuda needs to monitor, but it will likely never be a direct problem for the USA.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN REMAIN QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any tropical disturbances in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea. No named tropical storms are expected to form in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea this week.
