SUNNY & WARM DAYS THIS WEEK; COLD FRONT LIKELY FRIDAY; MUCH COOLER THIS WEEKEND… Sunshine and warm/hot afternoons are ahead for south Alabama and northwest Florida this week as recovery from Hurricane Isaias continues. Much cooler air is set to arrive this weekend. High temperatures today will be in the upper 80s to low 90s, with no rain expected. High pressure will keep our weather mostly sunny and dry through midweek. The next meaningful change comes late this week as a cold front approaches, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures by Saturday and Sunday.

DRY THROUGH THURSDAY; WARM/HOT AFTERNOONS; PLEASANT NIGHTS… Dry weather is expected today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, with rain chances remaining very low Thursday and Friday. Afternoon temperatures will generally reach the upper 80s to low 90s through Thursday. These temperatures could approach our high temperature records in parts of the region. Nights will offer some relief, with lows tonight ranging from the mid 50s to the mid 60s closer to the coast.

HOT TEMPS BUT NOT AS HUMID AS HURRICANE RECOVERY CONTINUES… The warmth is particularly important for anyone working on recovery efforts after Hurricane Isaias or still without power. Even with afternoon humidity keeping the heat index close to the actual temperature, prolonged sunshine and strenuous cleanup work can increase the risk of heat-related illness. Please take frequent breaks in the shade and drink plenty of water.

COLD FRONT ON THE WAY FRIDAY NIGHT… A cold front will likely move through late this week, with a much cooler and drier airmass following behind it. The exact timing of the passage still needs to be refined, but the forecast shows a substantial temperature drop between Friday and Saturday. Limited moisture ahead of the front should keep rain coverage minimal. This looks more like a change in temperatures than a significant rain event, with rain chances remaining at 10% or less through the weekend.

MUCH COOLER THIS WEEKEND WITH PLENTY OF SUNSHINE… Much more comfortable afternoons are ahead for Saturday and Sunday! High temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 70s Saturday, followed by low to mid 70s Sunday. Drier air behind the front should allow plenty of sunshine, with most communities remaining rain-free. Sunday morning lows will range from around 50° in the coolest locations to the mid 60s in warmer spots. A welcome change after the very warm afternoons this week.

TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any disturbances in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea that could become named tropical storms in the days ahead. Isaias has been post-tropical since Friday night after landfall, and NHC has issued its final advisory.

TROPICS: DISTURBANCE IN ATLANTIC… The one disturbance being monitored for possible tropical storm formation in the Atlantic basin is in the eastern Atlantic, a few hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. NHC indicates a low, 20% chance of development over the next 7 days. Showers and thunderstorms remain disorganized, and stronger upper-level winds should limit development by midweek. Heavy rain will be possible over portions of the Cabo Verde Islands as the system moves slowly northward to north-northwestward.
