QUITE WINDY ON FRI. NIGHT INTO SATURDAY; SECURE OUTDOOR ITEMS TOMORROW… Windy conditions are expected Friday night into Saturday during and shortly after the passage of a strong cold front across south Alabama and northwest Florida. This is a call to action, particularly for areas significantly affected by Hurricane Isaias: Tonight and tomorrow are when we all need to remove small items out of the yard that would topple over or blow into the roads/streets.
IMPACTS & TIMING OF WIND… Sustained winds of 20-30 mph are expected with wind gusts as high as 30-40 mph being possible. Wind speeds will start to increase late Friday night and will increase Saturday morning and into the midday hours. Wind speeds will likely maximize on Saturday afternoon before subsiding Saturday night into Sunday.. The above map highlights forecast wind gusts at 4PM Saturday.
A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE FRIDAY INTO FRIDAY NIGHT… I’ve had to increase the rain chances slightly for tomorrow to a 20% chance. Why? We’re seeing a bit more moisture than expected ahead of the strong cold front that will move into south Alabama and northwest Florida on Friday night. For now, the Storm Prediction Center does NOT have any thunderstorm chances in our area tomorrow, so it’s looking like just a few, brief showers. Rain amounts will generally be quite low. MOST communities will remain dry for the duration but a few showers may happen tomorrow into tomorrow night ahead of drier, cooler air arriving Saturday.
WARM FRIDAY; COOLER AIR ON THE WAY… Warm temperatures are expected Friday with highs in the mid to upper 80s. A strong cold front arrives Friday night, knocking down temperatures into the upper 40s inland with 50s likely for overnight lows on Saturday morning. High temperatures on Saturday will only be in the upper 60s and low 70s. With the strong northwest wind, the air will feel closer to 55-60°.
