FOGGY START; CLOUDY AFTERNOON; COOL TEMPS THIS WEEKEND… One last day of warm temperatures is ahead for south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday, with high temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80°. We will have a mix of clouds and sunshine, with rain chances near zero across the region. The one exception to this is down around the Alabama and northwest Florida coast where a few showers may happen this afternoon right at the beaches. The more noticeable temperature change arrives this weekend as cooler, drier air settles in behind a cold front. High pressure will build into the area, bringing cooler afternoons and some chilly nights.
NICE WEATHER FOR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS TONIGHT… No rain is expected for high school football playoff games across the region tonight. If you are headed to a game, a jacket will be useful as temperatures fall through the evening. We’ll be in the 60s for the games. Overnight lows by Saturday morning will range from the mid 40s inland to low 60s closer to the coast.
BEAUTIFUL, COOL WEATHER SATURDAY… Saturday looks like a nice day for outdoor plans. High temperatures will be in the upper 60s to mid 70s, noticeably cooler than today, with no rain expected. The cooler, drier air will also set the stage for a chilly Saturday night into Sunday morning. Some northern inland communities may dip into the mid to upper 30s, with patchy frost possible in the coldest spots.
COOL TEMPS SUNDAY; FEW SHOWERS SUNDAY NIGHT… High temperatures Sunday will be in the upper 60s to low 70s, with dry conditions expected during the day. A fast-moving system may approach late in the weekend into early next week, but there is considerable disagreement among the models about how this evolves. Any shower chance Sunday night remains very small, less than a 20% chance, and most communities will likely stay dry. This does not look like a reason to change outdoor plans.
SUNSHINE & MILD DAYS, COOL NIGHTS NEXT WEEK… Mild afternoons and cool nights will continue next week. High temperatures will be near 70° Monday and Tuesday before edging into the low to mid 70s Wednesday and Thursday. Rain chances remain low, at a 10% chance or less through midweek. Some northern inland locations may fall into the upper 30s on the cooler nights early next week, with patchy frost possible. Most of the week looks dry rather than unsettled.
TROPICS: SUBTROPICAL DEVELOPMENT POSSIBLE IN ATLANTIC… A broad, non-tropical area of low pressure a few hundred miles south of Bermuda has a 50% chance of acquiring subtropical characteristics over the next 7 days. Showers and thunderstorms remain disorganized, but conditions could allow gradual development through this weekend as the low moves slowly eastward over the western and central Atlantic. Conditions are expected to become less favorable for development early next week.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN SEA QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any areas for potential tropical development in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea over the next 7 days. Neither area has an active tropical storm or hurricane.
