LAST MILD DAY FOR AWHILE; TEMPS IN 40s TO RING IN 2025… Highs will be in the low to mid 70s today in what will be our final mild/warm day for at least the next two weeks. Partly cloudy skies this morning will give way to mostly sunny skies this afternoon. If you are planning to be at an outdoor event to ring in the year 2025 this evening, temperatures will be in the 40s by 10PM in most spots. I expect most locales to be around 45-47° by midnight. No rain or precipitation is expected tonight. Looking ahead, we have a much colder pattern set to take hold of our weather pattern.
COOLER TEMPS TO END THE WEEK… High temperatures will be in the upper 50s and near 60 over the next few days. Sunny skies are expected on New Year’s Day (tomorrow/Wednesday) and on Thursday. Isolated rain showers will be possible on Friday morning with clearing skies expected Friday afternoon. Saturday will also be a cool day with high temperatures expected to be in the 50s.
RAIN AND STORMS POSSIBLE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… Our next chance of rain and thunderstorms will happen on Sunday into Monday as a brief surge of slightly milder air moves in from the Gulf of Mexico. For now, severe weather parameters seem rather low, but that is something we will have to watch in the days ahead.
VERY COLD AIR COMING NEXT WEEK… Early indications point to high temperatures being in the 40s with overnight lows perhaps in the 20s as we get into Wednesday and Thursday of next week. I am expecting multiple surges of Arctic air to move into the Deep South. There continues to be no firm data that would support snow or mixed precipitation in south Alabama or northwest Florida, but just to give a bit of hope to the folks who consistently want snow: The cold air will almost certainly be in place. The question is: Can we get a storm system to pass through at an opportune time for snow? The answer continues to be, “Not likely, but also not totally out of the question.” Stay tuned for updates as we get into the colder air next week!
