COLD AIR MOVING IN; TEMPS BELOW FREEZING TONIGHT… Colder air is rapidly pushing into south Alabama and northwest Florida after the passage of a cold front. Temperatures have already peaked for the day in many communities. We’ll be in the 50s this afternoon, falling into the 40s early this evening. Tonight will feature overnight lows below freezing with wind chill values in the 10s and 20s due to the breezy conditions with the wind out of the northwest. Tomorrow will be the coldest night of the week ahead of moderating/slightly warmer temperatures later this week.
WIND CHILL VALUES IN THE 10s AND 20s TONIGHT… Freeze precautions will be needed tonight, tomorrow night, and perhaps Wednesday night. Sensitive outdoor plants should be brought inside today, ahead of freezing temperatures tonight. Overnight lows will be in the 25-31Β° range region wide, with the coldest temperatures happening north of U.S. Highway 84. Wind chill values may be as low as 15Β° further inland with values near 20Β° possible as far south as I-10. Cold nights ahead!
SUNSHINE RETURNS TOMORROW; HIGH TEMPS ONLY IN 40s… Clouds will clear out later today into tonight, paving the way for plenty of sunshine on Tuesday. Afternoon highs tomorrow won’t get out of the 40s in many communities. It will be a thoroughly cold day with temperatures below freezing from roughly 10PM tomorrow night to 8AM Wednesday morning.
NEW YEAR’S EVE FORECAST… New Year’s Eve across south Alabama and northwest Florida will be dry and cold. Temperatures around 6PM on Wednesday evening will be in the mid 40s. We’ll be in the mid 30s by 10PM and around midnight early Thursday morning as we ring in the Year 2026, temperatures will be around 34Β°. Clouds will increase in coverage on New Year’s Day on Thursday ahead of our next rain chance on Friday.
MILDER TEMPS LATER THIS WEEK… Afternoon highs will be in the 60s on New Year’s Day Thursday and on Friday. Overnight lows will be in the 40s Thursday night into Friday morning. The weekend will feature mild days and cool nights. That temperature trend will likely continue into next week as well.
SHOWERS POSSIBLE FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY… Showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms will become possible on Friday as an area of low pressure develops to our west and moves across our region from west to east. For now, the overall setup does not look supportive of severe thunderstorms. This is something I will be monitoring over the next few days, just to ensure the chance of severe weather remains at zero. For now, the trends are encouraging. Expect showers to be possible on Saturday as well ahead of drier conditions setting up on Sunday.
