ARCTIC OSCILLATION TO TREND POSITIVE BY MID-FEBRUARY… The Arctic Oscillation (AO) is *one* of many indicators we can look at to determine the potential for cold air intrusions from up north in the winter months. When the AO is in negative territory (like the last few weeks), confidence builds that our area will have some really cold weather. Obviously, in this case, it verified.
The good news: The AO is expected to trend toward positive values (thus cold, Arctic air will be “locked up” in the Arctic) in a few weeks. Hopefully this will bring an end to the ridiculously, unseasonably cold we have had and will have in the days ahead.

🌬️ 2pm – Just a tad bit breezy out there today! Numerous sites have recorded frequent gusts over 40mph this afternoon. It's downright miserable out there today when you combine the wind with the bitter cold temperatures.
Expect the windy conditions to continue through tonight. pic.twitter.com/jT6UEbVr1b
