SCATTERED STORMS TOMORROW… Thunderstorms will be possible on Friday, mainly in the morning and midday hours. Some of these storms may briefly become strong or even marginally severe. Most locations will simply have rain and thunder at times.
NICE weekend on tap. High temperatures will be in the low 70s.
MILD THURSDAY; LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK FRIDAY… Temperatures will climb into the mid-70s today with only a low (10%) chance of a few sprinkles and showers this evening into tonight. Rain chances rise overnight ahead of a frontal boundary that will move across the region Friday morning. Ahead of this boundary, isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible. The Storm Prediction Center has included much of south Alabama and northwest Florida in their low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid on Friday. Drier, nicer weather is in store for the weekend when high temperatures will again be in the 70s.
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – FRIDAY… 4AM to 1PM Friday is the nine hour window when a line of thunderstorms is projected to move across south Alabama and northwest Florida. IF any severe storms happen across the local area, 8AM to 1PM is the core window on Friday. Showers may begin as early as Thursday evening but no severe storms are expected until the main line of storms moves into west Alabama and moves east across the entire region.
LEVEL 1 (OUT OF 5) SEVERE WEATHER RISK ON FRIDAY… The main severe weather risk on Friday will happen in areas along, south, and east of Interstate 65. This is because surface-based instability will be near zero as storms move into our region early Friday morning. Instability values are expected to increase after sunrise. The Storm Prediction Center has included parts of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (AL), Monroe, Butler counties along with zones to the southeast of those counties (including all of northwest Florida) in their low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk starting Friday morning. A Level 1 (out of 5) risk means MOST locations will have rain and thunder, but a few strong to severe storms can’t be completely ruled out. Any storms that ramp up to marginally severe levels will be capable of producing a brief tornado and/or damaging wind gusts.
RAIN TOTALS LESS THAN ONE HALF INCH IN MOST SPOTS… Rain totals with this system slated to move by on Friday will generally be less than one half inch of rain in most spots. The line of storms set to move across our region will be moving rather quickly and won’t be too wide, in terms of the overall size of the line of storms. This means a quick-hitting burst of heavy rain with occasional thunder for most spots on Friday morning.
DRIER, NICER WEATHER THIS WEEKEND… Saturday and Sunday will feature mild temperatures and mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s each day with dry conditions expected into next week.
NO SIGNS OF ANY PROLONGED COLD WEATHER… The next 6-10 days will feature temperatures that run above average for this time of year. High temperatures will generally be in the 70s with morning lows in the 40s and 50s. The long range outlook continues to show no signs of any extended, Arctic air mass moving into our region like what we had last week.

BECOMING CLOUDY THIS EVENING… Increasing cloudiness is expected this afternoon into this evening ahead of rain and thunderstorms becoming possible on Friday. High temps in the mid 70s today!
Isolated strong to severe storms will be possible tomorrow. MOST locales, however, will simply have rain and occasional thunder.
Have a nice Thursday!
