DROUGHT-BUSTING RAIN IN MAY WITH MORE POP-UP STORMS THIS WEEKEND… Some locales across south Alabama and northwest Florida had 20-25 inches of rain in total during the month of May. This excessive rainfall helped put an end to the drought in place across much of the region. The map attached highlights just how much rain we had in the month of May, with the highest amounts happening near West Mobile, Saraland, Jay, McDavid, and Brownsdale. The vast majority of us across the region had at least 10” of total rain in May. The good news is we have more rain on the way as we get into the weekend and early next week.

POP-UP STORMS SATURDAY, SUNDAY, INTO MONDAY… While a few, brief showers and storms may happen Friday, the fire hose of moisture is set to turn back on as we get into Saturday and Sunday. Pop-up thunderstorms will again become the norm across the region. It won’t rain all day in any given community but we will have thunderstorms that rapidly develop, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours each day. High temperatures will be in the 80s this weekend. New rain amounts of 1-2” will be possible, but I caution that rain amounts will vary quite a bit. Some spots will get nothing while a spot right down the road from you may pick up 2” of total rain very quickly.
