P.M. STORMS TODAY; MAINLY DRY & HOT FOR THE WEEKEND; MORE RAIN NEXT WEEK… Pop-up storms will likely develop across parts of south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. Not every community will have rain before the end of the day. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s today and tomorrow. Lower rain chances are in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Mostly sunny skies are expected this weekend with only a low-end (5-10%) chance of rain in the afternoon hours. I expect nearly all of us across the region to remain dry tomorrow and Sunday.

P.M. STORMS LIKELY NEXT WEEK… An uptick in the coverage of showers and thunderstorms will likely happen starting on Monday into Tuesday of the upcoming week. Tuesday, in particular, could be wet at times due to an area of low pressure that develops to our east and ultimately tracks to the west. More about that is detailed in the paragraph below. Overall though, next week is set to feature a return to the pattern supporting P.M. pop-up showers and storms each day. This is normal for the summer months across the local area. High temperatures will be running a few degrees above our long term climatological norms in the first half of the week.

TROPICS: AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MAY FORM MIDWEEK… Several of the major global weather models have been intermittently showing a pattern that could support an area of low pressure developing off the coast of Georgia in the Atlantic Ocean that would move basically due west along the northern coast of the Gulf on Tuesday into Wednesday of the upcoming week. The signal for this feature has been intermittent and weak, so there is a real chance it never comes to fruition. IF a scenario like this does happen, our local area would have increased rain chances at some point on Tuesday into Wednesday. Beyond that, widespread, significant impacts appear unlikely.

FORECAST PREVIEW: INDEPENDENCE DAY… America’s 250th birthday is on Saturday, July 4! The forecast looks quite seasonal for what you would expect for the 4th of July around here. P.M. pop-up showers and thunderstorms appear likely mixed in with sunshine throughout the day. Afternoon high temperatures will likely be in the low to mid 90s with morning lows in the 70s.
