SPOTTY P.M. STORMS TODAY; RAIN CHANCES RISE THIS WEEKEND… Another hot, humid day is on tap for south Alabama and northwest Florida with high temperatures expected to be in the 95-98° range. Heat index values will again be in the 105-110° range this afternoon. I expect spotty showers and thunderstorms to pop up this afternoon into the evening hours. Showers and storms will be drifting southward today. Not every community will have rain today. Most, in fact, probably won’t. Rain chances are expected to be highest across inland areas north of US84. We’ll have a similar weather pattern in place tomorrow and Friday ahead of higher rain chances at times this weekend.
TEMPERATURES SLOWLY RETURN TO SUMMER NORMS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS… Highs today will be in the mid to upper 90s but thankfully, we will be moving back to our normal temperature values for summertime as we get into the weekend. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s and low 90s by Friday and Saturday.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY AT TIMES THIS WEEKEND… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Saturday and Sunday. Most (not all) of the showers and storms will happen in the afternoon and evening hours. Widespread severe storms are not expected, but all of the storms will be capable of producing localized downpours of heavy rain, cloud-to-ground lightning, and loud thunder. Rain amounts are expected to be in the 1-2″ range (in total) across most communities locally. I will have radar updates posted this weekend, as needed, in the RedZone Weather app.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN REMAINS QUIET… No tropical storms are expected to form over the next 5-7 days across the Gulf, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean. The climatological peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season happens in mid-September. Hurricane season officially ends on November 30.
TROPICS: FAUSTO & GENEVIEVE WEAKENING IN PACIFIC… Fausto, once a hurricane and now a weakening tropical storm, is located a few hundred miles northeast of Hawaii. Fausto is falling apart quickly. The storm will pass just north of Hawaii over the next few days. Only minor impacts are expected in the Hawaiian Islands due to Fausto. Separately, Hurricane Genevieve is also weakening in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Genevieve will continue moving northwest and away from Mexico in the days ahead. The system will never come close to Alabama or northwest Florida.
