VERY HOT & HUMID AGAIN TODAY; SCATTERED P.M. STORMS… Oppressive heat and humidity will continue across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Saturday. High temperatures will be in the 94-100° range with heat index values expected to be in the 103-113° range this afternoon. A Heat Advisory is in effect for ALL local counties until 8PM. Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and avoid overexertion if you are working outside. Scattered, pop-up showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon into this evening. It will not rain all day, and not every community will have rain before the end of the day. There is no formal risk of severe weather locally. Any stronger storms that develop may produce cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy downpours, and gusty winds. Overnight lows will be in the mid 70s as muggy conditions continue into Sunday.
MORE HEAT & POP-UP STORMS SUNDAY… Tomorrow will feature a weather pattern quite similar to today. High temperatures will again be in the 94-100° range with excessive heat index values. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible, primarily during the afternoon and evening hours. An all-day washout is not expected, but be ready for localized storms in the P.M. hours.
HOT WEATHER CONTINUES NEXT WEEK… A strong upper-level ridge of high pressure will remain the main focus of our weather pattern next week. High temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 90s with some of the hottest inland communities approaching the 100 degree mark. There is no meaningful relief from the heat in sight, and additional Heat Advisories may be needed in the days ahead. At least some chance of pop-up showers and thunderstorms will exist each day. Storm coverage will generally remain isolated in nature, meaning many communities will remain dry on any given day. Any storms that develop may produce localized heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET… No named tropical storms are expected to form this weekend or into early next week in the Gulf or in the Caribbean Sea.
TROPICS: INVEST 92L NEAR WINDWARD ISLANDS… INVEST 92L, a tropical wave in the Atlantic Ocean just east of the Lesser Antilles, has a 10% chance of becoming a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next day or so. Increasing upper-level winds and drier air are making development increasingly unlikely, thus the significant reduction in development probabilities. Regardless of development, gusty winds and heavy rain will be possible across portions of the Lesser Antilles today into tonight due to this system.
TROPICS: SEPARATE TROPICAL WAVE IN CENTRAL ATLANTIC… Another, distinct tropical wave (branded as INVEST 94L) is located more than 1,000 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. NHC indicates a 30% chance of development over the next 7 days. Some development will be possible over the next few days, but stronger upper-level winds are expected to reduce the odds of development during the upcoming week. I will continue monitoring both tropical waves in the days ahead even though it looks like formal development won’t happen. Good news!
