SCATTERED STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING; HOT THURSDAY… Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida. A low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk is in place for ALL communities across the region today. This risk is driven by the potential for gusty winds in the strongest of the storms. Hot and humid conditions will continue today with highs in the mid 90s. Heat index values will again be in excess of 105° in many spots, which is why a Heat Advisory is in effect for all local counties.
LOW-END, LEVEL 1 (OUT OF 5) SEVERE WEATHER RISK; GUSTY WINDS ARE MAIN CONCERN… All of south Alabama and northwest Florida is involved in the low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for today into this evening. Damaging straight line wind gusts are the main concern in the stronger storms that develop. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but a few storms may briefly become strong or severe. Lightning, loud thunder, and localized downpours will also be possible. The overall tornado risk remains very, very low today.
SCATTERED STORMS LIKELY TOMORROW EVENING… Storm coverage will likely increase tomorrow as an upper-level trough begins to have more influence on our weather pattern. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be in the 93-98° range. The Storm Prediction Center has another low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk in place across part of our local area on Friday.
SPOTTY STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY… Rain chances will decrease Saturday compared to Friday, although spotty showers and thunderstorms will remain possible mostly in the afternoon and evening hours. Many communities will remain dry. High temperatures will generally be in the mid 90s as hot and humid conditions continue.
SLIGHTLY LOWER RAIN CHANCES SUNDAY AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… An upper-level ridge of high pressure will begin rebuilding across the region this weekend into early next week. This will likely result in fewer afternoon storms Sunday and Monday, but the tradeoff will be continued hot temperatures. High temperatures will remain in the 90s, with a few of the hottest inland communities approaching 100° Sunday. Rain chances may begin to increase somewhat by Tuesday and Wednesday of the upcoming week.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN REMAINS QUIET… The National Hurricane Center indicates tropical development is not expected anywhere across the Gulf, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean over the next 7 days. The climatological peak of the hurricane season happens on September 11. The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season will officially end on November 30.
