P.M. POP-UP STORMS ON THIS LABOR DAY; HOT TEMPS TO CONTINUE… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across south Alabama and northwest Florida this afternoon into this evening on this Labor Day Monday. No way to really pinpoint pop-up storm placement in advance, but we know we will see quite a few pop-up storms as we get into the P.M. hours. A few stronger storms may produce heavy downpours, gusty winds, loud thunder, and cloud-to-ground lightning. Localized nuisance-type flooding cannot be ruled out where storms repeatedly move over the same areas. No formal severe weather risk is in place and tornadoes are not expected today. High temperatures will generally be in the mid 90s, with the hottest inland communities approaching 100°. Heat index values will range from 100-109° this afternoon because of the high humidity.
SLIGHTLY LOWER RAIN CHANCES (NOT ZERO!) TOMORROW & WEDNESDAY… Storm coverage will likely be somewhat lower tomorrow and Wednesday, but rain chances will not drop to zero. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will generally be in the low 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with triple-digit heat index values remaining possible.
P.M. THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY LATER THIS WEEK AND INTO THE WEEKEND… Rain chances will increase again Thursday and remain elevated through the weekend. Scattered to locally numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible each afternoon as we get into Thursday and Friday. The stronger storms may produce localized downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. This will be a continuation of the current pattern, meaning widespread severe storms are unlikely. These will be the seasonal, pop-up storms of late summer. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s.
TROPICS REMAIN REMARKABLY QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any areas of concern across the Gulf, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean. No named tropical storms are expected to form during the next 5-7 days. This remarkably quiet outlook is always welcome, but particularly so as we approach the climatological peak of Atlantic hurricane season later this week. The peak of the season happens around September 11. The 2026 hurricane season will officially end on November 30.
