PARTLY CLOUDY, HOT TUESDAY; ONLY A FEW P.M. STORMS TODAY… Partly cloudy, hot, and humid conditions are expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. High temperatures will generally be in the 88-93° range. A few showers and thunderstorms may develop this afternoon into this evening but the vast majority of us across the region will remain dry and hot today. Any storm that develops may produce localized downpours and cloud-to-ground lightning. There is no formal risk of severe weather locally today.
HIGHER RAIN CHANCES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS… Rain and thunderstorm coverage will increase tomorrow and Thursday as deep-layer easterly flow becomes established across the region. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible, mainly during the afternoon hours, with elevated rain chances continuing Friday and Saturday. Rain will not be continuous, but more communities will have rain compared to today. Heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds will be possible in the stronger pop-up storms that develop. Widespread severe weather is not expected tomorrow or Thursday.
HEAT, HUMIDITY, P.M. STORMS INTO THE WEEKEND… Heat and humidity will remain firmly in place through the weekend despite the higher coverage of pop-up storms. High temperatures will generally be in the upper 80s to low 90s tomorrow and Thursday, followed by low to mid 90s Friday through Sunday. Scattered P.M. showers and thunderstorms will remain possible Friday and Saturday before rain chances begin to trend lower Sunday. None of these days are expected to be complete washouts. I do NOT advise cancelling plans this weekend as P.M. pop-up storms are the norm this time of year. Simply have a way to check the radar and move plans inside if you’re near one of the storms.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any tropical disturbances across the Atlantic Basin, including in the Gulf and Caribbean Sea. Tropical development is not expected during the next 5-7 days. Quiet conditions are particularly encouraging in mid-September as we approach the climatological peak of the Atlantic hurricane season in just a few days.
