SCATTERED STORMS TODAY, THIS EVENING, & INTO THE WEEKEND… Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday, with the greatest coverage expected during the afternoon and evening hours. Rain will not be continuous in every community, but many locations will have at least one round of rain before the end of the day. Storms may produce localized downpours, frequent lightning, loud thunder, and gusty winds. A few storms may briefly become strong, but no formal severe weather risk is in place. Isolated nuisance-type flooding will be possible where storms repeatedly affect the same areas. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s and low 90s today.

SPOTTY STORMS AROUND THIS EVENING; SOME H.S. FOOTBALL GAMES MAY BE AFFECTED… Spotty showers and thunderstorms will remain possible into the evening hours when high school football games are happening across the region. Some games may be affected by rain or lightning delays; however, I expect MOST stadiums across the region to remain dry. Be ready to check the radar before leaving home and throughout the game. Move inside if thunder is heard, as any storm will be capable of producing cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds.
ANOTHER ROUND OF POP-UP STORMS ON SATURDAY… Saturday will feature another round of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, with storm coverage likely to peak during the afternoon and early evening hours. It will not be an all-day washout in any given community, but storms will be numerous enough that outdoor plans may be interrupted in some communities. Localized heavy rain and nuisance-type flooding will again be concerns where storms train over the same locations. A few storms may produce gusty winds, although (thankfully) no formal severe weather risk is in place. High temperatures will generally be in the 87-91° range on Saturday.
SCATTERED STORMS SUNDAY… Storm coverage is expected to decrease somewhat on Sunday compared to Saturday, but scattered pop-up showers and thunderstorms will remain possible across the region. Some communities may have a downpour while others remain dry for much of the day. High temperatures will range from the upper 80s to low 90s.
SLIGHTLY LOWER RAIN CHANCES EARLY NEXT WEEK… An upper-level ridge will begin rebuilding across the region early next week, leading to lower rain chances and hotter afternoon temperatures. Monday appears to have the lowest rain chances, although a few isolated to widely scattered storms will remain possible. Spotty storms may become somewhat more numerous again from Tuesday through Thursday. High temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and low to mid 90s, with heat index values potentially reaching the 100-107° range in some communities.
TROPICS: GULF, CARIBBEAN, ATLANTIC QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any tropical disturbances in the Gulf, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean. Tropical development is not expected anywhere across the basin during the next 5-7 days. That quiet outlook is particularly notable as we are AT the climatological peak of Atlantic hurricane season. TODAY is the official climatological peak of the season. Hurricane season will end on November 30.
