NICE START TO THE WEEK; INCREASING RAIN CHANCES LATER THIS WEEK INTO WEEKEND… We’ll have a pleasant start to the week across south Alabama and northwest Florida ahead of increasingly active weather expected later this week and into the upcoming weekend. Today and Tuesday will be dry with lower humidity, while most communities remain rain-free on Wednesday. Moisture will return later this week, leading to increasing coverage of showers and thunderstorms Thursday through Sunday. There is a chance of a few strong to severe storms becoming possible across portions of the Deep South this weekend, but it is too early for anything specific as far as “who gets what hazards.” Please check back in for updates in the days ahead about this potential.
BEAUTIFUL MONDAY; DRY CONDITIONS EXPECTED… Plenty of sunshine and dry conditions are expected across the region today. Lower humidity (compared to the oppressive heat of summer over the last few weeks) will make temperatures in the 86-90° range feel quite comfortable for late September. Overnight lows will reach the upper 50s and low 60s in some inland communities tonight, with warmer temperatures closer to the immediate coast.
MAINLY DRY TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY… Dry weather will continue tomorrow with highs generally in the upper 80s and low 90s. Most communities will also remain dry Wednesday, although a few isolated showers or thunderstorms may become possible as moisture begins to return. Wednesday highs will be around the 90 degree mark.
SCATTERED SHOWERS & STORMS AT TIMES THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY… A developing southerly flow will bring increasingly moist air into our area during the latter half of the week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will become possible Thursday, followed by greater storm coverage Friday. Rain will not be continuous, but any storms that develop may produce locally heavy downpours because of the increasingly moisture-rich atmosphere. There is a chance Friday evening may be wet for some communities.
RAIN & STORMS LIKELY AT TIMES THIS WEEKEND; A FEW STRONG STORMS MAY BE POSSIBLE… Numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible at times Saturday and Sunday as deep moisture remains in place across the region. It probably will not rain continuously throughout the weekend, but outdoor plans may be interrupted by thunderstorms and localized heavy rain. A few stronger storms cannot be ruled out, although it remains too early to determine whether an organized severe weather risk will develop. Specific timing and hazard details will become more clear later this week.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not currently highlighting any areas of concern for tropical development in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea.
TROPICS: TROPICAL DEPRESSION FAY IN THE NORTH-CENTRAL ATLANTIC… Tropical Depression Fay remains over the open waters of the north-central Atlantic, well west-southwest of the Azores. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph, and little change in strength is forecast over the next several days. Fay is expected to move slowly before turning toward the southwest and west-southwest by midweek. Fay is not expected to be a direct problem for land areas.
