FEW SHOWERS TODAY, ESPECIALLY NEAR THE COAST; COOLER TEMPS THIS WEEKEND… Isolated showers will be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday. The greatest rain chances will happen closer to the coast. Most communities further inland will remain dry. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. An isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, but severe storms are not expected today. A cold front that has stalled right over our region will finally move east across our area tonight into Friday, allowing cooler, drier air to settle in for the weekend. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the upper 60s.
LOW-END RAIN CHANCES, MAINLY NEAR COAST, TODAY… Rain chances will vary quite a bit across the region today. A few showers are possible near the coast, but rain chances also extend inland, including a somewhat higher chance around Florala and in parts of Covington County. Much of southwest Alabama will stay dry. The upper-level energy supporting the front is pulling away to our north, so showers and any thunderstorms will tend to weaken as they move east. Rain chances will decrease tonight.
MAINLY SUNNY IN MOST LOCALES ON FRIDAY… Most communities will remain dry on Friday as the cold front pushes east and drier air begins moving into the region. Rain chances will be very low, with afternoon highs in the mid 70s to low 80s. The more noticeable cooldown will follow heading into the weekend.
MOSTLY SUNNY & COOLER ON SATURDAY… Cooler, drier weather is ahead for Saturday, with no rain expected during the day. High temperatures will range from the upper 60s to mid 70s across the region. Saturday night will be considerably cooler, with some of our northern inland communities potentially dropping into the upper 30s by early Sunday morning. Most communities will settle in the 40s by daybreak Sunday.
FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT… A few showers may become possible Sunday into Sunday night, but rain chances remain low at a 20% chance or less. Another fast-moving weather system may approach the region late in the weekend, although there is considerable uncertainty about how that system evolves. Most communities will likely stay dry. Sunday will be cooler, with afternoon highs in the mid 60s to low 70s.
SUNSHINE & MILD TEMPERATURES NEXT WEEK… Mild afternoons and cool nights will continue into next week. High temperatures will be near 70° Monday, followed by low 70s Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain chances remain low, at 15% or less each day. Some northern inland locations may dip into the upper 30s on the cooler nights early next week.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET… The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any areas for potential tropical development in the Gulf or Caribbean Sea over the next 7 days.
TROPICS: DISTURBANCE SOUTH OF BERMUDA IN ATLANTIC… A non-tropical area of low pressure a few hundred miles south of Bermuda could gradually acquire subtropical characteristics as it moves slowly eastward over the western and central Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center gives this system a 50% chance of development over the next 7 days. Conditions may support some organization through the weekend before becoming less favorable early next week.
