FEW RAIN SHOWERS TODAY; VERY COLD THIS WEEKEND… Isolated rain showers may be possible across the region over the next several hours. Most communities, however, will probably remain dry. High temperatures will range from near 50° further inland near places like Thomasville and Beatrice to near 62° closer to Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, and Destin. Very cold, dry air will surge into the region tonight behind an advancing cold front. Temperatures on Saturday will be just about as cold as it ever gets around here. Fortunately, a warm up in temperatures is expected by the middle part of the upcoming week.

ISOLATED SHOWERS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION TODAY… While most communities across south Alabama and northwest Florida will remain dry today, I can’t completely rule out a few sprinkles and showers, particularly over the next several hours this morning. Drier air will begin to filter in this afternoon into this evening. Afternoon high temperatures today will be in the mid to upper 50s in most communities with 60s possible across parts of northwest Florida.

VERY COLD OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY; HIGHS *BELOW* FREEZING IN SOME COMMUNITIES TOMORROW… It’s about to “get cold and stay cold” tonight into tomorrow. Saturday will be a day when it will be better to stay inside – plain and simple. A brisk northwest wind will KEEP wind chill values in the 10s across the region tomorrow, even in the middle of the day. Afternoon high temperatures will remain below the freezing mark in some communities across inland areas of southwest Alabama with mid 30s likely closer to the coast. This is about as cold as it ever gets around here!

HARD FREEZE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING… Extremely cold temperatures will happen Saturday night into Sunday morning. Most spots will settle in the upper 10s by 6AM Sunday. Wind chill values won’t be AS low as Friday night due to lower wind speeds, but will continue to be in the dangerous category for folks who don’t take temperature precautions. Keep in mind that some communities will go below the freezing mark on Friday night in the 2-3AM range and will remain below freezing all day Saturday into Saturday night. These communities should have temperatures rising above the freezing mark by 11AM Sunday. That’s 32-33 consecutive hours of below freezing temperatures. Very cold conditions!

GRADUAL WARM UP STARTS SUNDAY; RAIN MIDWEEK… Highs on Sunday will only be in the low to mid 40s, but that represents a substantial improvement over the 30s expected on Saturday. Lows will be in the upper 20s on Sunday night into Monday morning. Highs on Monday top out in the 50s with 60s expected on Tuesday. We FINALLY will have at least two nights above freezing on Tuesday night and Wednesday night. Good timing too, as this will be when a rain chance arrives as well. No snow or mixed precipitation in the forecast, just rain at times on Tuesday into Wednesday.
