UNSETTLED PATTERN THIS WEEKEND… Rain and storms are likely at times this weekend, particularly on Saturday and again late Sunday night into early Monday.

Saturday, in particular, could have multiple rounds of rain and storms. If you have outdoor plans Saturday, make sure you have an indoor backup ready to go!

SUNNY, WARM THURSDAY; RAIN & STORMS POSSIBLE AT TIMES THIS WEEKEND… It will be a beautiful Thursday in many spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida with mostly sunny skies in the afternoon and early evening hours. Warm temperatures are expected with highs in the mid 80s today. We have multiple rounds of rain coming as we get into the weekend and early next week as we enter a more unsettled pattern. Monday, in particular, may feature a few strong to severe storms across the region.

RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES LATE FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY… Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible late Friday night into Saturday morning. The overall threat of any severe storms remains LOW, but perhaps not entirely zero, during this time frame. Severe weather parameters are not overly impressive but there may be just enough overlap of instability and shear to cause one or two storms to become strong. Gusty winds would be the main concern in any storms that become strong on Saturday. The overall tornado risk would be quite low, but maybe not entirely zero. This is something I will be closely monitoring over the next few days.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK TO OUR NORTHWEST ON SUNDAY INTO EARLY MONDAY… The expansive, Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk in place for parts of northwest Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, east Texas, east Oklahoma, and points north represents a large swath of the U.S. where strong to severe storms may be possible on Sunday into Sunday night. Birmingham, Demopolis, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Cullman, Gadsden, Anniston, and Florence are involved in Alabama. The greatest probability of any severe storms happening in Alabama will probably be in the northwest corner of the state. Tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and large hail will be concerns in any thunderstorms that can become strong or severe across portions of the several states involved in the severe weather risk zone Sunday into Sunday night.

ANOTHER ROUND OF STORMS POSSIBLE MONDAY; SOME SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE… Rain and storms will be possible again on Sunday night into Monday as a cold front approaches from the north. The Storm Prediction Center has all of our local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida in a Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone valid for Monday. Any storms that happen Monday locally will be capable, potentially, of producing tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and large hail. Most communities will simply have rain and thunder at times on Monday. A few of the storms may be severe. We will have updates posted throughout the weekend and into early next week in the RedZone Weather app and as always, we will “go live” if tornado warnings are needed locally.

APP… If you haven’t already downloaded the RedZone Weather app, now is a great time to do that. redzoneweather.com/app is the link to the free download.
