LOW-END RAIN CHANCES NEAR COAST; PROLONGED DRY WEATHER AHEAD… Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible today near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. Most locales across the region will remain dry today. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s and near the 90 degree mark. We’re about to enter into a prolonged, dry weather period in the weeks ahead. Ongoing drought conditions across the region will probably get worse over the next few weeks as rain looks to be quite scarce in the extended range.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN QUIET… The Gulf, Caribbean, and Atlantic are quiet with NO named tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. Thursday, September 11 marks the climatological peak of the hurricane season, so it is particularly remarkable that the entire basin is slated to be quiet over the next few days. Hurricane season will end on November 30.
TROPICS: HURRICANE KIKO NEAR HAWAII… Hurricane Kiko is the only named tropical system in the eastern/central Pacific this morning. Kiko will pass to the north of the Hawaiian Islands over the next few days.
